Years have passed since boxing legend Floyd Mayweather retired, leaving behind an undefeated 50-0 record, sealed with a win over UFC megastar Conor McGregor in their highly popular boxing match. While Mayweather bid farewell to professional boxing, he continues to showcase his skills through exhibition bouts. Despite his absence from the sport, no one has been able to fill the void he left, and no younger boxer has come close to reaching the level of success he achieved during his remarkable unblemished career.

Moreover, Mayweather set numerous records that continue to inspire future generations of boxers, including holding 15 world titles across multiple weight classes and becoming the highest-earning boxer of all time. However, the most remarkable talent he possessed was his almost flawless defense. Throughout his more than two-decade-long career, his impeccable defense became a key factor in him maintaining his perfect 50-0 record.

In a recent episode (#2257) of the Joe Rogan Experience, UFC commentator and podcast host Joe Rogan discussed Mayweather’s legendary defensive skill. Rogan, who was joined by comedian Bryan Callen, made it clear why Mayweather is still considered the best ever. “If you want to say who’s the best boxer of all time, I always say Floyd because he got hit less than anybody, and that’s the whole thing. And, by the way, he didn’t have the kind of power that any of these other guys had. Didn’t have that—like that Roy Jones Jr. power.”

Throughout his two-decade-long career, Floyd Mayweather was seldom hit, and impressively, he never suffered a knockdown either, something very special when you consider the number of great fighters he fought. However, one notable moment occurred in 2001 during his bout with Carlos Hernandez. In that fight, Mayweather did get hit and had to take a knee but the referee missed it. Eventually, Mayweather emerged victorious, securing a unanimous decision in his favor.

Joe Rogan commends Floyd Mayweather for his exceptional discipline

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, over his remarkable two-decade career, not only claimed titles across multiple weight divisions but also earned the title of the undisputed pay-per-view king. Although he has retired from professional boxing, Mayweather continues to hold his records in regard to pay-per-view buys, including his high-profile matchups with Manny Pacquiao in 2015 (which garnered 4.6 million PPV buys) and Conor McGregor in 2017 (with 4.3 million PPV buys).

Throughout his illustrious career, Mayweather sold an impressive 24 million PPVs, generating a staggering $1.67 billion in revenue. This immense financial success also mirrors his extravagant lifestyle, featuring luxury cars and frequent parties. Nevertheless, despite living a high-profile life, Mayweather still remained disciplined when it came to boxing.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan discussed this disciplined approach in a conversation with UFC lightweight star Dustin Poirier, praising Mayweather’s ability to balance his wealth and discipline. “Floyd Mayweather’s the only guy who’s been able to just be balling out of control, constantly flashing money, million-dollar watches, a fleet of super expensive cars, and still f**ks everybody up. He’s the only guy. The thing about Floyd is that he never lost his discipline. Floyd’s discipline was undeniable. Floyd would famously run home from the nightclub,” Rogan explained.
