Did Devin Haney's critique of Trump rally security backfire spectacularly, or was he spot on?

Devin Haney faced significant backlash following his comments on the incident involving former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. The lightweight champion’s comments about the reported shooting at a Trump rally seemingly took netizens by surprise. From taunts to strong opinions, ‘The Dream’ received a variety of responses over what looked like his observation on purported security oversights.

The former undisputed champion has been in the middle of one of boxing’s biggest controversies. No harm has come to his light welterweight title and record. The match with Ryan Garcia is now a no-contest. Nevertheless, it seems the entire episode has seemingly affected the young boxer badly. He even suggested going ahead with a lawsuit against ‘KingRy’ for the way the scandal has taken a toll on him and his career.

What did Devin Haney say?

Nah.. nobody saw this ni**a wtf??” said Devin Haney. He was responding to a tweet from @shannonsharpeee. It read, “Here’s footage the moment sniper shot the shooter at Trump rally.” Now if only the fans and followers had understood precisely what the light welterweight was trying to say. Or, perhaps, the latter could have been a bit more explicit with his words?

Per the available reports, while attending a rally in Pennsylvania’s Butler, the 45th U.S. president suffered injuries as the shooting took place. According to the update from CNN, aside from the individual suspected of firing, a rally attendee had also died. The Secret Service reportedly managed to neutralize the gunman.

Two more people suffered injuries of a serious nature, it seems. Given the brazen way the horrendous act occurred, many raised concerns about the security measures in place for the former president.

Getting to the heart of the matter

Many fans jibed at Devin Haney. Some said that he must have lost it after receiving those vicious hooks from Ryan Garcia. But then a few decided to set the record straight on behalf of the beleaguered boxing champion. They tried explaining it in the best way they could. Let’s check out what a few of them have to say.

This user, a leading boxing coverage provider, intervened. The person appearing in the footage was actually the one who had either fired at or was on the brink of firing at the alleged perpetrator, they said.

Then this fan seemingly wondered that the miss-out might have occurred just like the way Devin Haney failed, so see the incoming left hooks from Ryan Garcia.

Echoing similar sentiments, the next fan found it unbelievable the extent of the harm the fight with Ryan Garcia might have caused Devin Haney.

To this user also, it appeared that Haney’s utterances might have been an invariable outcome of what happened to him during the Garcia fight.

But a fan decided to go a bit deeper . They tried understanding what ‘The Dream’ might have meant while expressing his shock. The fan addressed all the users who were making comments about the ‘sniper(s)’ involved. They said that Haney was perhaps pointing at how the authorities might have failed to notice the alleged shooter’s location. Especially when there are eyewitnesses informing reporters on having come across the gunman stepping aboard the roof.

Devin Haney hasn’t been much in the news of late. He had hinted at proceeding with a break for some time before making a comeback to the ring. A fight with Sandor Martin, the WBC’s number-one contender, appeared in the offing. But it didn’t take off on account of the failed purse bid. He can always go for a title-unification fight against other light welterweight champions. But as things stand, it might be some time before fans hear anything concrete about ‘The Dream’.
