Mike Tyson is an interesting human being. After all, not everyone thinks of returning to the ring when they are almost 60 years old. Not only that, the Baddest Man On The Planet is suffering and rehabbing from a few health-related issues. Many athletes would not even think about returning to the ring in such a condition.
But that is not Iron Mike. The Brooklyn native has always defied expectations with his dedication to his craft, and it somehow hasn’t dwindled since his retirement. The same applies to his renewed life as a family man. The 58-year-old has turned his life around in the last 20 years and it has left everyone stunned. Mike Tyson has often credited his spiritual journey for his transformation and according to some reports, it looks like he has found a pretty interesting way to meet God and it almost killed him!

A few days before his fight against Jake Paul, the 50-6 boxer got in touch with actress Rosie Perez. The pair talked about various things, including Tyson’s troubled past, his legacy, his boxing technique, and how he took toad venom seven years ago in an effort to bring him closer to God. Yes, you read that right. Perez asked Iron Mike the secret behind his changed perspective at such a late phase in his life.
He revealed that seven years ago, he tried a spiritual medicine called toad.“You see a toad, you bust its puss, you put it on like a mirror, and it gets hard. You rub it down until it become fine sand, and then you smoke it,” stated the Brooklyn native while explaining how he went about consuming it.
Mike Tyson further revealed how he had a spiritual experience after taking it. The experience, according to him, was responsible for his current path in life, including fighting Jake Paul. Tyson accepted that “it sounds strange, but if you do some investigation people will tell you about it(the treatment).” When asked if he actually saw God, he replied, “No, you don’t see him. You feel him.”
Perez got worried about her friend and asked whether he was doing it under the supervision of a shaman or not. To her surprise, Tyson stated that he was with his shaman and his wife and “I’ve done it over 80 times. 90 times, probably,” and called himself a “professional.”
The former youngest heavyweight champion then explained his whole experience. According to him, even though he was conscious, he “had a spiritual death,” and he died. He further explained how this process changed his perception of death and he realized that “dying is beautiful. How could death be bad and life be beautiful? It’s a total contradiction.”
The shocking thing was that Mike Tyson had even advised his wife, Lakiha Spicer, and his family to do the toad venom. According to him, “Anything that helps me, I give it to my wife, my kids. I gave it to everybody that I love. I gave them the toad.”
This is not the first time that Mike Tyson has involved himself in some kind of dangerous substance. A few years ago, the boxer opened up about his struggles with ma*****na, c****ne, and alcohol, and called himself a “relapse specialist.” Even that time, his c****ne addiction got him nearly killed.
In recent years, he got involved with psilocybin m******ms to overcome emotional trauma and personal growth. Although the boxer openly admits to his addictions and unconventional treatments, these substances are banned in the US and are considered extremely dangerous.
Is toad venom illegal?
Toad venom, also known as 5-MeO-DMT, derived from the Sonoran Desert toad, became a sensation among psychedelic enthusiasts a few years ago. People start describing the experience as spiritual and life-changing. While the use of a toad as a d**g is not new, as we can trace its history back to old Columbian traditions.
But, with celebrities like Mike Tyson and Christina Haack promoting it now, it is seeing a resurgence. It distorts your vision and sound and can leave you physically inept for half -an hour, perfectly describing a psychedelic trip.

In the US, the toad is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance, making it illegal to possess, manufacture or even distribute. The UK government has also classified it as a class A d**g and has rendered the distribution illegal. Australia has the same law as the UK when it comes to toad venom.
But in countries like Canada and Mexico, this d**g is less regulated. The Canadian government has termed the substance as Schedule III and has allowed limited use for research or religious purposes. Meanwhile, in Mexico, the substance is not much regulated, which has resulted in its wide use.
Mike Tyson has expressed his views and stated that the substance should be made legal in America as a form of therapeutic medicine. According to him, the government doesn’t want to make it legal as it will force people to have “a whole different perspective of life. Everybody might start loving each other. And we don’t want that, do we?”

While the legendary boxer has explained his positive experience with the substance, it is very risky. The user can experience short-term side effects like nausea, disorientation, and even loss of consciousness. A higher dose of the d**g can even result in a fatality. Moreover, the after-effects can last for several days and the user can experience psychological distress. Furthermore, the Sonoran Desert toad is an endangered species, and hunting it for its venom has raised ecological concerns as well.
