The much-awaited Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia has begun at the Barclay’s Centre in Brooklyn. The first undercard fight between Charles Conwell and Nathaniel Gallimore has taken the course, with Conwell securing his career’s 19th victory, continuing his undefeated streak. The reactions to this befitting prelude to the main card are as staggering as they could get.

26-year-old Conwell started strong, with some powerful counter-rights that managed to wobble his Jamaican opponent, Gallimore. The clash between the super welterweights picked momentum in round three as Gallimore started showing signs of damage with his nose and mouth bleeding. By the fifth round, it was clear that Conwell had dominated the fight. But the need to sustain his opponent’s jabs kept ‘Nate the Great’ active in the ring, however, only sparingly.

Round 5 came with much more damage to Gallimore, as Conwell kept up the pressure on him. However, the veteran that he is, Gallimore, came with his own set of counters. But alas, round 6 sealed the deal, with the referee stepping in to stop further damage to Gallimore. Conwell won the fight via a 6th-round TKO.

As soon as the fight elapsed, the reactions started pouring in, one of the first being from the current WBC lightweight champion.

Conwell Takes the Big Win

Shakur Stevenson relayed his thoughts on the fight even before it began. He was reminded of the time he competed alongside Conwell in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Congratulating ‘Bad News’ for his victory, a boxing enthusiast underscored how hard his punches were. She claims to have felt their intensity as she watched the fight go down.

As Conwell won, a boxing official was glad that the fight went in his favor. He now envisions a fight between the American fighter and Brandon Adams, which went unfough in 2021.

Back in 2019, Conwell accidentally killed his opponent, Patrick Day, during their fight. As a homage, he highlighted the late fighter’s name on his shorts. The homage read, “All Day, Pat Day”. Even the commentators pointed this out. A fan underscored that the win was another befitting tribute to Patrick Day.
