Last week, veteran matchmaker and boxing insider Rick Glaser shared an update suggesting that the professional relationship between Leonard Ellerbe and Gervonta Davis might have soured. Glaser speculated that the two may have gone their separate ways after a long journey together. This development ties back to a common thread involving Floyd Mayweather Jr. Until two years ago, Gervonta Davis was a prominent member of Mayweather Promotions, which he joined in 2015, two years after turning professional.

Initially, Davis and Mayweather shared a cordial relationship. However, as time passed, tensions arose, culminating in a publicized spat. Following this, Davis maintained a close association with Ellerbe. Reports later revealed that Ellerbe had also departed from Mayweather Promotions. Glaser’s latest revelations have sparked curiosity among boxing fans.

Hearing from several sources, [Leonard Ellerbe] has been jettisoned by [Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis] and no longer has any affiliation with Tank,” the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame inductee tweeted last week. He supported Gervonta Davis’ decision, implying that it may be beneficial for his career.

Though sounding a bit amused, the veteran matchmaker felt that Leonard Ellerbe, despite parting ways with Davis, will recover professionally and likely find a role with Al Haymon‘s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), possibly alongside Stephen Espinoza, the former head of Showtime Sports.

However, Ellerbe didn’t miss the missive and responded with a colorful message. “Rick, shut the f*** up with your lying a** per norm. Sick with the flu.” Roughly a week later, he addressed the issue while speaking at the newly launched podcast, ‘The Laboratory With Plaz’.  The host, Laplac Brown Jr., aka Plaz Brown, brought up the speculation.

But I was going to ask you, Leonard, oh, we got one more: Did he (Ellerbe) get fired by Gervonta? He read a user’s tweet. “This guy’s a clown,” replied the former CEO of Mayweather Promotions, adding further the most plausible reason behind the talks—his absence from the recent press conference of the March 1 Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach Jr. fight. He said, “People, they didn’t see me at the press conference. I was ill. Yeah, that’s it.

As Ellerbe reflected on the outlandish narratives of current times, the host reiterated on his behalf, “There y’all motherf**kers have it; you know what I’m saying: Leonard is still with Tank.” However, despite Ellerbe’s denial, Rick Glaser stood by his claim.

In his latest tweet, he retorted, “Of course Leonard Ellerbe is lying; Ellerbe was jettisoned by Tank Davis & in total denial about it! Ellerbe may need professional help.” Elaborating further, he explained that perhaps Leonard Ellerbe may not be ready to the take news.

Reflecting on a lesson learned from his former mentor, Glaser hinted that perhaps ‘Tank’ may have adopted Mayweather Jr.’s assertive and independent approach to handling business matters. The boxing insider emphasized the pattern he noted in how Floyd Mayweather Jr. seemingly distanced himself from Leonard Ellerbe. Now Tank has done the same.
