However, many people have speculated whether either fighter is using any illicit performance-enhancing substances to give them an edge. To prevent this kind of speculation, many fighters enter the VADA or Voluntary Anti-Doping Association pool where they are tested for these substances. This organization allows athletes to voluntarily register under their testing pool. Moreover, the fighters will be subject to unannounced testing at any time during the eight weeks prior to a scheduled fight.

Alvarez has used this program many times in the past, including entering the pool for his fight against Caleb Plant. Therefore, many have wondered if he has also done this for his upcoming bout against Golovkin.

Is Canelo Alvarez in the VADA pool?

The Mexican boxer has indeed registered to be in the pool for this fight. The super-middleweight champ entered the pool back in May along with GGG, who also entered during the same time. Both fighters will now be tested for any performance-enhancing drugs before the fight, although it is highly unlikely that this will happen.

Alvarez has not been fined or suspended for violating any drug policies since his six-month suspension in 2018. It was found that he had trace amounts of Clenbuterol in his body before the 2nd Golovkin fight. However, his camp claimed that it was due to contaminated meat largely found in Mexico.

The final chapter in the historic rivalry between Alvarez and ‘GGG’

The two legendary boxers will dish it out for one final time after sharing the ring in two of the most exciting matches in modern boxing. The first bout took place in September 2017. It lived up to the immense hype, a back-and-forth fight with plenty of power shots, with the match ending in a draw.

This led to the second fight almost a year later, which many found even more thrilling than the previous one. However, Alvarez would secure the win this time via majority decision in another close fight. Many felt that Golovkin won both fights but was robbed of his victory by politics. However, he will now have one final chance at redemption, as the two will finally grace the ring for the third time.
