On April 20th, Devin Haney will defend his WBC Super-Lightweight title against Ryan Garcia in Brooklyn. It was in December last year that Haney won the title against Regis Prograis in his debut at 140 lbs. Garcia, who aspires to become a world champion in the sport, expects to dethrone Haney. Now, former WBA Inter-Continental Super-Lightweight champion Kenneth Sims Jr. has predicted what will unfold during the fight.
Since Sims Jr. sparred with Devin Haney when the latter prepared for the fights against Geroge Kambosos Jr., the 30-year-old has excellent knowledge about Haney’s strength and understanding of the sport. As per Sims Jr., Haney will out-think Garcia and likely win and he has his reasons for the same.

After the loss to Gervonta Davis in April last year, Ryan Garcia said he was getting bored with ‘Tank’. As a result, he fought desperately and “ended up getting knocked out“. On that note, former WBA Inter-Continental Super-Lightweight champion Kenneth Sims Jr. thinks Haney will make better decisions than Garcia in the ring. “Yeah, I sparred Devin when he was getting ready for his Kambosos fight. I never been in there with Ryan. Ryan got some talent, he’s explosive, fast, can punch. But, I think Devin should pull it out,” said Sims Jr.
“I think he’s more technical, he’s smarter in the ring when it comes to making decisions. Ryan said it himself in that ‘Tank’ fight. He said he got bored and decided to just go crazy. And that’s when it all went down. I think Devin will probably out-think him,” Kenneth Sims Jr added.

Additionally, Sims Jr. mentioned that Haney and Garcia fought one another multiple times as amateurs. However, given Haney’s IQ, Sims Jr. picked ‘The Dream’ over ‘KingRy’. Soon, the 30-year-old was asked if fans could see a knockout on April 20th. He had an answer for this as well.
‘KingRy’ or ‘The Dream’ – who will get the KO?
Due to some of the questionable statements Ryan Garcia tweeted, the boxing world questioned his mental health. Later, the 25-year-old even went through a mandatory mental health evaluation requested by the NYSAC. At this, several people expected Haney to knock out Garcia. But, what does Kenneth Sims Jr. think? “I think it’s boxing where everybody can punch in 8-ounce gloves. Anybody can be knocked out anytime. That’s why you need to stay sharp on defense,” said Sims Jr.

“I think Devin got the ability to stop him. Just like Ryan got the ability to stop him. And it’s boxing, you’ll never know what is going to happen until you get in there,” he added. On being asked if he would be surprised to see Garcia outbox Haney, Sims Jr. said, “That would be a surprise. I’d be less surprised if Devin stopped him. I don’t expect a one-punch type of knockout.”
