Devin Haney is in a weird spot about whether he should face his WBC strap mandatory Sandor Martin for a fraction of the money he usually makes, or move up in weight to challenge Mario Barrios for his newly acquired WBC welterweight title. Nothing has been confirmed quite yet, but it is sure that Haney isn’t about to take shade from Alberto Puello!

Earlier today, reports suggested that Matchroom failed to acquire rights for Haney’s WBC mandatory fight, which went to Top Rank. And now, if Haney takes that fight to keep his current belt, he will be paid way less. However, Puello can’t stomach the fact that Haney is still the WBC champion, something he expressed in an X post today. This caught Haney’s eye and he brought up Puello’s past with PEDs as a retort.

Hours ago, Puello hopped on X, claiming he deserved the belt while questioning how Haney remained the champion even after taking one of the harshest beatings of his career from Ryan Garcia. It’s worth mentioning that Garcia came in overweight for the fight, which disqualified him from acquiring Haney’s belt. Still, the Dominican boxer added that if Haney doesn’t want to face Martin, he should relinquish the title so Puello can get it. This, of course, didn’t sit well with the former undisputed champion as he clapped back.

Responding to Puello, Haney wrote, “U deserved to be banned for cheating..” Here, ‘The Dream’ is referring to Puello’s April 2023 positive PED test results right before he was about to enter the ring against Rolando Romero. The Dominican boxer had tested positive for performance-enhancing drug clomiphene and its M1 and M2 metabolites. Interestingly, it is the same substance Conor Benn tested positive for. Regardless, the Romero fight was canceled and Puello had to sit on the sidelines as he was replaced by Ismael Barroso.

Some reports revealed that Puello was about to become a father at that point in time, so he had taken some doctor-prescribed medicines, which could have caused the positive results. Meanwhile, here’s what Ronaldo Romero had to say about Puello’s adverse findings.

Romero was slated to face Puello for the WBA super lightweight title in May 2023 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. However, having dodged his PED-positive opponent thanks to VADA, Romero was thankful. According to a report from Boxing Scene, Romero said, “I know a lotta these people are on that s**t”. It’s also worth mentioning that finding the banned substances in Puello’s body was odd. Why?

Clomiphene is often prescribed to women facing pregnancy issues, but it can be helpful for athletes since it can help increase testosterone levels. Regardless, Romero added, “I ain’t that kinda person [to name names], but a lot of these motherf**kers on that sh!t. I think it’s f**king disgusting. It takes away from boxing being legit. It’s sad”.

Seems like Devin Haney still hasn’t recovered from Ryan Garcia testing positive for PED after the latter absolutely decimated him in May this year. And Alberto Puello seems to have gotten the brunt of Haney’s anger. Do you think Puello deserves the belt?
