Sometimes, boxers need to be their own promoters. On a similar note, Devin Haney appeared in an interview and decided to list his achievements in the sport of boxing. ‘The Dream’ Haney is about to fight Regis Prograis on 9 December at Chase Centre in San Francisco. The Las Vegas resident aims to become a two-weight champion by defeating the 29-1 Regis.

While appearing in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, ‘The Dream’ proclaimed his greatness as a successful boxer. Many would even count Gervonta Davis or Shakur Stevenson as the face of boxing. However, Shakur’s recent performance against Edwin De Los Santos definitely tarnished his chances. Considering the same fate isn’t waiting for Haney, one question remains – what did Haney say to validate his claim of being the face of boxing?

While speaking to the reporter from Fight Hub, Haney began by suggesting that he sold out the MGM Garden Arena during his fight against Vasyl Lomachenko. In addition, he asserted that he is about to sell out the Bay Area stadium as well. “I sold out the MGM, and now I’m going to sell out the Bay Area,” said Haney. He went on to assert that he is not handpicking fighters or avoiding anyone.

“So, I’m taking real fights doing it, you know. I’m not a guy picking and choosing and ducking or none of this,” said Haney. ‘The Dream’ further added that he is offering the best contracts to the best fighters like Shakur Stevenson while claiming he is the face of boxing. “I’m offering the so-called best fighters, you know, contracts with…like guy like Shakur. I am the epitome of the face of boxing,” said Haney. Despite what Haney claims, Stevenson accused him of running away from the challenge.

Before Haney took on the challenge to face Regis, the Las Vegas resident defeated Vasyl Lomachenko in a very close battle. Some even claimed that Lomachenko had won the fight. While appearing in a recent interview with Sky Sports, Stevenson commented on Haney not giving Lomachenko a rematch.

“He fought Lomachenko right after Lomachenko had a bad performance against Jamaine Ortiz. Regis was just coming off a bad performance,” said Stevenson. He went on to suggest that Haney’s strategy is to do that. ‘Sugar’ even added that if Haney was a real champion, he would give Lomachenko a rematch. “You have a close fight with somebody like he did with Lomachenko. You’ve got to run it back. Instead of running away from the smoke,” said Stevenson.
