Devin Haney has always been respectful of the fighters who came before him. In a recent example of such a gesture, he named a fighter whom he considers to have been underrated in his time.
Right now, Devin Haney stands at a crossroads. After his potential fights against Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia fell through his promoter, Eddie Hearn revealed that Sandor Martin might be a plausible name that Haney could go ahead with. However, ‘the Dream’ who snatched Regis Prograis’ WBC Super lightweight belt last year is still out looking for opponents. While he remains poised as one of the most abled fighters of his generation, he wrote an ode to another fighter, a legend in his own right.

Taking to his Instagram stories, 25-year-old Haney shared visuals, which were shared on Instagram by ‘undisputed.boxing’, from one of the most iconic fights of the early 21st century – the infamous Arlington clash between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito. While sharing the visuals of Pacman’s maiden fight in the Super welterweight division, in which he claimed the vacant WBC title, Haney wrote, “Believe it or not… Pac one of my favourite fighters! He was cold underrated in my opinion.”

On that night at the Cowboys Stadium, Pacquiao rose to fame after he defeated his opponent in a unanimous decision victory. The highlight, however, was the way he inched toward that victory. With relentless jabs, his unwavering shower of punches kept Margarito on his toes, fazing him out slow and steady. Haney’s suggestion of Pacquiao being underrated comes at a time when the 45-year-old Filipino fame is back on the map, making headlines and keeping fans excited.

It’s happening! The two fighters whose rivalry once made headlines for years at a stretch are making a comeback. It is estimated that Pacman, 45, and Floyd Mayweather, 46 are slated to face off against each other this year. The inkling was first made apparent by Pacquiao. He noted, “I’m ready,” when a Japanese businessman and mixed martial arts (MMA) promoter, Nobuyuki Sakakibara, probed him about it.
Pacquiao’s revelation has pushed fans into a bout of nostalgia immediately. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao clashed in the squared ring in 2015, a fight that PacMan lost via a unanimous decision. The fight has etched itself in history after it became the highest-earning boxing match by bringing in more than $600 million.
