The undefeated champion Devin Haney has become a global superstar thanks to his success in the division. The WBC lightweight champion will now move a step further towards cementing his place at the top of the 135 lbs division when he takes on Jorge Linares.
Haney’s opponent has been a subject of several rumors ever since his victory over Yuriorkis Gamboa. ‘The Dream’ wanted to fight either Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, and even made a late charge for Vasyl Lomachenko. However, it is now official that he will defend his belt against Jorge Linares.

The 25-0 boxer took to his Twitter to make his bout official. He wrote, “IT’S OFFICIAL! May 29th I will show I’m the best in the WORLD!” This tweet showed his eagerness to prove his worth against a top contender in Linares. Furthermore, the champion revealed the fight banner in his tweet.

In addition, it also confirmed the reports which suggested May 29 as the date as opposed to May 15. Therefore, the tweet all but confirmed the other details of that report, which reported that 12000 fans would be in attendance, and it would be in his hometown of Las Vegas.

What does the Devin Haney vs. Jorge Linares fight do for the lightweight division?
The lightweight division is one of the most exciting in the sport right now. There are four top contenders and several others on the verge of competing with them. So how will Haney’s fight against Linares affect the division?
Since ‘Devin ‘The Dream’ is fighting Linares at the end of May, it means his next fight will be towards the end of the year. The only other big name in the division competing at a similar time-line is Teofimo Lopez. He will take on his mandatory challenger, George Kambosos Jr. on June 5.
