Finally, the verdict is out. Ryan Garcia will be out of boxing for the next year. The ruling from the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) follows his reported failure to clear successive drug tests. According to the available information, apart from the nearly year-long suspension, the young boxing superstar will forfeit some amount as a fine. The match against Devin Haney has now been declared a ‘No Contest’. It basically means that Devin Haney’s unbeaten record remains intact. Along with the rest of the fans and followers, ‘The Dream’ penned a few thoughts on the latest development.
He seemingly expressed relief that one of his initial requests regarding the case did not receive a sanction. Why? As it appears, the now re-instated light welterweight champion wants a rematch with Ryan Garcia on a level playing field. Devin Haney revealed in a separate tweet that he might not be hitting the ring for another year. Additionally, he appears to have set a precondition that might serve as a blueprint for his future games.

Tagging Ryan Garcia, ‘The Dream’ wrote, “No, bs tho I’m happy it’s wasn’t a DQ because I wouldn’t wanna win like that once this suspension is over, @RyanGarcia. Let’s run it back. CLEAN on a even playing field.. Biggest fight n boxing!“

Earlier, he said that his further plans envisage a return to fighting in one year. A comeback around the time Ryan Garcia is back? Then ‘The Dream’, though not highlighting which weight class, highlighted that he already held all the championship belts. If he meant the lightweight, then it might stand true since he was the 135-pound division’s undisputed champion. But at 140 pounds, he held the WBC belt.
But it is what he added subsequently that might raise quite a few eyebrows. Devin Haney said that moving forward, he might fight in a weight class of his own preference. He may no longer be bound to a particular division. “I’ll be back n one year.. I had all the belts already. From now on, I’m fighting at whatever weight I choose, no longer fighting n weight classes,” said Haney.

According to Dan Rafael‘s update, reportedly, Ryan Garcia, his legal team, and the NYSAC reached a ‘settlement agreement’. The former interim lightweight champion will be committing himself to a suspension that should last roughly 12 months. The April 20 fight at New York’s Barclays Center will enter record books as a ‘no-contest’.
BREAKING: Ryan Garcia/legal team have made settlement agreement with NYSAC. He has agreed to the following: suspension of at least 1 year; forfeiture of his $1.1M official contract purse (goes to GB, Haney may get %), $10k fine (state max); fight officially a no contest. #boxing

The ruling includes financial penalties as well. ‘KingRy’ would be essentially signing away around $1.1 million from the ‘official contract purse’. So the tweet mentions that the amount would go back to his promotions, ‘The Golden Boy Promotions’, and Devin Haney may receive some portion as well. Additionally, Garcia would be required to pay a fine of $10,000 per state regulation.

Some week to ten days after that sensational victory over Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia made it to major headlines when reports of him returning negative results based on the test samples taken a day before and on the day of the fight. He contested the findings and insisted that he was innocent of any wrongdoing. Unfortunately, secondary test results that came by May-end confirmed the observations made in the initial test. After his hair samples, which per the claims reported negative results, Garcia’s team pinned their hopes on ‘supplemental contamination’. They based their argument on the positive results of separate tests conducted on two listed supplements.
BREAKING: Ryan Garcia’s B sample results were returned Thursday a.m., 1 day after being opened. I have the lab reports & the B samples, as expected, matched A samples — both are positive for the banned PED Ostarine related to VADA tests the day before & after Haney fight. #boxing
