In a recent interview, Devin Haney gave fans a glimpse into his plans. He revealed he wants to continue making big fights happen for the fans. The WBC lightweight champion added he has two potential opponents in his sight- Richard Commey and Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz. He said that he is even open to making a move to Top Rank-ESPN to book a fight with the former IBF lightweight champion.

His interview with FightHype suggested he is more inclined towards a bout with Commey over Diaz. Haney added that Joseph Diaz is “lagging” and has shown no interest in a potential matchup.

Right now, we’re looking at Richard Commey and Jo Jo Diaz. Jo Jo Diaz is lagging; he’s not really showing that he wants to fight. He says things to the media, but in reality, he hasn’t really shown [interest],” said Devin Haney.

“We’re also looking at Richard Commey if we can’t get a fight against Jo Jo Diaz….  Richard Commey is interested in fighting Loma, but the deal is not signed yet.

We know they are in talks, but he [Commey] will get a title shot and make more money fighting me, so we got to see. And I’m willing to go to ESPN to make the fight happen,” added Haney.

Joseph Diaz could be out of the equation

The WBC lightweight champion is currently a top fighter at 135 lbs. Devin Haney has 26 wins with 15 career knockouts, and no losses on his record. His recent update on fighting either ‘JoJo’ Diaz or Richard Commey would make sense for the 22-year-old. However, booking either of these opponents could be an arduous task, given that both Commey and Diaz are currently chasing their own target opponents.

Joseph Diaz is expected to fight Ryan Garcia this fall. He is determined to face the 22-year-old former WBC interim lightweight champion. Ryan Garcia pulled away from a July fight against Javier Fortuna (36-2-1, 25 KOs) and cited that he needed time off for his mental health. Hence, it would naturally make sense for Garcia to accept and make a comeback to the ring with a fight with ‘JoJo’ Diaz.

Richard Commey calls out Devin Haney

Haney also expressed that his go-to opponent for a fight in the next few months would be Richard Commey. However, the former IBF lightweight champion aims to secure a fight against Vasyl Lomachenko. With a stunning win over Masayoshi Nakatani, Loma could be interested in facing Commey before ultimately securing a mega rematch against Teofimo Lopez.

However, it seems Richard Commey is stuck in a predicament. While he still wants to fight Vasyl Lomachenko, there is still no deal on the table. The former IBF champion recently even tweeted a call-out to Devin Haney and asked him to present a contract. This could mean that a professional bout between Devin Haney and Richard Commey could soon become a reality.
