WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney has struggled to find a blockbuster matchup for himself for a long time. Despite offering himself against the other champions, ‘The Dream’ has mostly been ignored by many. Before Teofimo Lopez lost his titles to George Kambosos Jr, he was given a chance to throw fists with Haney in what could have been a massive lightweight contest.

Haney was eager to get his chance and desired to stage it. However, Top Rank kingpin Bob Arum denied the idea and stated that Haney wanted $5 million, which he wasn’t willing to pay. Referring to the financial condition, Arum also claimed that he could have made the fight happen.

But the massive financial demand from Devin Haney’s side apparently curbed it. Now, months later, the WBC champion sat down with Brian Custer to address several things, including a response to Arum’s accusations.

Devin Haney said, “They make up lies and they stay stuff. It’s an excuse for everything. At the end of the day, the fans want to see the fight. The world wants to see the fight. If Bob Arum doesn’t want to put up the money or because he doesn’t even know what I even want. We never even got that far to even negotiate what I wanted.”

“As number-wise, Eddie Hearn said that. He came out openly, he said that he would put the money up and we go from there. So he [Bob Arum] can say whatever he want to say.”

Bob Arum and Teofimo Lopez were also on a bad note a few months back. It urged Lopez to move to DAZN for his first title defense.

Haney is currently working with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Promotions and Teofimo Lopez just had a stint with them, which didn’t work out in his favor. As Lopez is no longer a world champion, he cannot demand an immediate shot at Devin Haney‘s WBC belt. Meanwhile, undefeated word champion Haney has vowed to unify his straps with newly crowned champion George Kambosos Jr. It clearly puts away ‘Take Over’ from the entire scene.

Well, ‘Take Over’ is still a major name in the vicious lightweight division. He is a marketing genius and has fetched immense attention with his appearances. So, Haney may still want to trade shots with him. And Eddie Hearn can come in as massive support to set up the fight in reality.
