On the 30th of September, one of the biggest fights of this year concluded with the usual suspect taking home the victory. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez defended his super-middleweight titles against Jermell Charlo. His smooth glide toward victory via a unanimous decision, which also included a seventh-round knockdown, managed to gather around a staggering $50 million in earnings. But the fight night was not limited entirely to this feat.

On the undercard to the Canelo vs. Charlo fight, another nail-biting fight took its course. Welterweight fighter, Mario Barrios sought to redefine his boxing career after he suffered two devastating back-to-back losses in 2021 and 2021. And he did exactly that. Barrios reclaimed his position in the boxing realm by defeating Yordenis Ugas via a unanimous decision. His journey from those defeats to this spectacular victory is a story flourishing in the community today.

“His mentality is what I love”: Mario Barrios wins some praises

“El Azteca” Barrios has not had an easy past couple of years in his boxing career. When he clashed against Gervonta Davis in 2021, he saw his first and most devastating loss through knockout. His resilient spirit did not let him lose hope. Now, on a mission to redeem himself, he fought yet another big fight. This time against Keith Thurman. Barrios failed to do what he hoped to do. His 2022 Thurman fight gave him the second loss of his career.

However, not letting a few losses dampen his spirit, he then went on to fight against Jovanie Santiago early this year. With a win through knockout, he managed to reverse his losing streak. However, still chasing a groundbreaking victory, last weekend he challenged Yordenis Ugas for his WBC Interim Welterweight title. Securing a victory in that fight, the fighter was back and how.

His redemption story earned some praise. Musical artist, Showbizz The Adult said, “What I’m saying is his mentality is what I love. This guy came out of losing to Tank Davis, goes up to 147, fight Keith ‘one time’ Thurman, lose to him and fight Ugas?! Boy, that’s like Shawn Porter just taken them all.” He further said, “So when look at his guy come off two loses and then take on someone like Ugas, and win?! Man, come on man!”

Fans Echo the Praise for Barrios

When a fighter emerges against all odds and reinstates his dominance in the sport, a nerve is struck amongst all. El Azteca’s victory will be a moment to remember for all boxing fans. Despite a legendary fighter like Canelo being on the main card, his victory against Ugas seems to have stolen the show. A fan further echoed this sentiment. They said, “Barrios-Ugas stole the show for me.”

However, taking a dig at Charlo for not meeting the expectations that were placed upon them, a user appreciated the intense showdown that Barrios and Ugas gave the spectators. They commented, “Barrios vs ugas was a fight while canelo vs charlo turned out to be just canelo beating the shit out of a heavy bag.

A fan was all praises for Barrios. However, they felt that Ugas was not up to the mark. They commented, “Barrios looked great vs Ugas, but it’s making me think Ugas wasn’t that good after all……nor was Spence…...”

Ugas can’t box doe,” further declared another fan.

Further, another user downplayed Ugas’ boxing prowess. They said, “Ugas is so washed up his name been devalued for the past two years, he going for names and not real fights. Ugas, not a worthy opponent for us to say that.”
