The Conor McGregor vs. KSI boxing match does not make any sense. However, if we follow Notorious’s career, it does not look like the Irishman plays by the rule. The former UFC dual champion teased the idea of stepping into the boxing ring with Logan Paul late last year. However, ‘The Maverick’ shut down those rumors by signing a full-time WWE contract, forcing McGregor to find a new opponent. The combat sport buzzed with excitement when Paul’s partner KSI stated that he would be down for the fight, stating on a fake poster, “Not rumoured. I’m very down.” However, there is a problem.

McGregor is still contractually bound to the UFC. A few days ago, when asked about the rumored boxing match, UFC head honcho Dana White killed the buzz and stated, “No no [won’t fight KSI or Logan Paul]. I’m hoping that Conor McGregor will return in the fall.” White would like the Irishman to return to the octagon instead of a boxing ring. And as long as Conor McGregor is still contractually tied, he isn’t going anywhere without the UFC president’s nod. Therefore, on Friday, Misfits Boxing co-president and KSI’s manager Mams Taylor urged White to consider making this multi-million dollar fight.

KSI camp’s humble request to Dana White

In a conversation with ‘All Out Fighting’, the interviewer asked Taylor about the possible fight between KSI and Conor McGregor and Dana White’s decision to not allow the latter to venture out of the UFC. While Taylor did not consider the UFC honcho’s decision as a wrong one, he would love for him to let this fight happen. After all, both the fighters are ready and even the world wants to see this clash. “He’s not wrong because that’s the Guv’nor. When it comes to Conor McGregor, those two guys, Conor McGregor is signed to Dana,” admitted Mams Taylor.

What about Conor McGregor himself? “I think KSI and Connor are very game to fight each other. They’ve been wanting to, they’ve been calling each other out in public on social media. But ultimately, we have to respectfully ask Dana if he would consider making that massive, massive fight happen,” the co-founder of Misfits Boxing stated.

While the co-president of KSI’s promotional venture would love the fight to happen, he accepted that he has no power here. The Irishman still has two fights left under his UFC contract and “We’d love it too but Uncle Dana holds the power on that one.” So have the negotiations started on that front? “I’ll go into that soon, hopefully,” confessed Taylor.

However, it does not look like Dana White is in any mood to let his prized fighter go.

Conor McGregor: Back where he belongs

The absence of Conor McGregor from the UFC has been severely noticeable and has created a sizeable hole in the selling power of the promotion. The former two-division champion has not returned to the octagon since 2021. However, White is hopeful that this year we will finally see it happen.

The 22-6 fighter has not stepped into the cage since his loss to Dustin Poirier. He was supposed to return in 2024 against Michael Chandler, but an untimely injury derailed those plans. But fans were still hopeful for a UFC return in early 2025.

However, the narrative once again changed when, by December 2024, McGregor posted a message revealing that one of Aisa’s richest family, the Ambanis, approached him for a boxing match against Logan Paul. The suggested $250 million purse made the offer even more ludicrous.

Since then, there have been countless reports suggesting a constant change in plans. First, it was Jake Paul replacing his older brother, and then the ball turned toward KSI. These rumors forced Dana White to come out and set the record straight.

In a conversation with talkSPORT, White claimed that Conor McGregor would return to UFC. So what about the boxing match? “Eventually,” added White. While he can’t reveal the exact date, if he has any say, the UFC head honcho made it clear that he would rather like McGregor to return to the UFC.

With just one statement, White shut down multiple rumors and cleared the air surrounding ‘Notorious.’ However, in the process, he might have killed the dreams and hopes of fans who wanted this Misfits boxing match to happen. Whether Dana White will change his mind in the future or not, only time will tell. However, at this point, Conor McGregor is expected to return to the octagon and nowhere else.
