Deontay Wilder defeated Robert Helenius in October of last year after his consecutive defeats against Tyson Fury. The former Heavyweight champion was back in the win column and the boxing world was excited for his resurgence. The excitement escalated when the word was spread that Wilder’s fight with Anthony Joshua was as good as done. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn was positive that the bout would take place in December and Wilder, on the other hand, promised the fans a knockout.

However, in a recent turn of events, Wilder is speculated to face Andy Ruiz next instead of Joshua. Ruiz is a former champion himself and the two were scheduled to face against one another back in 2022 and have come full circle. Wilder’s trainer, on the other hand, has started to prepare for Ruiz and tags it as a “Marinating” stage.

Mallik Scott is the trainer of Wilder and the two share a unique history. Back in 2014, Wilder fought Scott and defeated him via a stoppage in the very first round. Thereafter, Wilder brought Scott on board as a trainer ahead of his trilogy against Fury. Scott has not only been an integral part of Wilder’s training but has also played the role of a spokesperson on behalf of Wilder. Last week, he made headlines in the boxing world after weighing on Ruiz being the next opponent for Wilder.

Recently, Scott took to Instagram and shared a clip of himself, scrutinizing Ruiz’s fight against Chris Arreola back in 2021. In the bout, Ruiz was victorious but suffered a knockdown in the second. Witnessing the same sequence, Scott posted a clip of him watching the fight and stating, “Ah @elieseckbach tell ya, boy @andy_destroyer13 we have already started marinating. Time’s up,” The story was also re-posted by Wilder on his Instagram story.

Although, the fight is not official yet, Scott hints at it being as good as done by tagging a boxing reporter, Elie Seckbach and indicating commencement of preparations. Not to mention, Wilder reposting the story is a confirmation of the same.
