In December last year, Deontay Wilder lost to Joseph Parker, returning to the ring 10 months after the massive win against Robert Helenius. Following the victory against Wilder, Parker squared off against Zhilei Zhang in March this year. After going the distance of 12 rounds, the 32-year-old defeated Zhilei Zhang at Kingdom Arena, Riyadh.

Following Zhang vs. Parker, Mike Coppinger from ESPN reported that Deontay Wilder and Zhilei were in the process of finalizing a potential fight on June 1st in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Zhilei Zhang told Boxing News that he welcomed a match against Deontay Wilder with “open arms“. He even branded a potential fight against ‘The Bronze Bomber’ “a great bang for the sport of boxing“.

On that note, boxing fans expected Deontay Wilder to train hard and be more athletically active. However, the former WBC heavyweight champion seems more keen on penning poetry. Likewise, the 38-year-old took to Instagram and shared a poem consisting of two quatrains. “In the realm of life, where shadows loom, We face the trials that make us strong,” began Wilder.

Through valleys dark and mountains high, We learn to spread our wings and fly,” he added. Then, in trochaic tetrameter, he continued. Using mostly monosyllabic words, conveying his losses and desire to taste a victory, he added, “Obstacles like giants block our path, Challenges that test our will and wrath.

But in the depths of our own soul, Resides a flame that makes us whole,” he concluded. However, despite the harmonious and rhymed lines, fans remained upset. Here is how they reacted to Wilder’s poem about obstacles and wisdom gained in life.

Fans want the boxer Deontay Wilder, not the one composing poems

In 2021, Deontay Wilder hired Malik Scott as his trainer. Scott trained Wilder for the trilogy fight against Tyson Fury. However, Fury knocked Wilder out in the 11th round when they fought last. After the loss to Fury, Wilder returned against Robert Helenius a year later in 2022. In the first round itself, he knocked out Robert. But, Josheph Parker beat ‘The Bronze Bomber’ in 2023. On that note, a fan said, “More boxing less quotes! Malik got you speaking well but fighting horrible! New trainer.

Referring to the loss against Parker, one said, “Bro you got schooled by Parker. Humble yourself.” However, one encouraged Wilder to win against Zhilei Zhang. “Let’s go Champ! Get that win over Zhang,” they said. Similarly, one asked him to “just knock out Zhang.”  Finally, one wrote, “Deontay you gotta wake da F**k Up. It’s WAR TIME.
