Deontay Wilder, the former WBC heavyweight champion who made a record number of title defenses and cemented his legacy as the hardest puncher in the sport’s history flew all the way from the US to Diriyah arena to become part of the star stubbed guest list that witnessed the highly anticipated grudge match between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury. There the 36-year-old came across the biggest rival of his boxing career, the reigning WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Keeping aside all the bitterness, ‘The Bronze bomber’ put forth a kind gesture. He stepped close to Fury and the duo hugged each other wholeheartedly.

This became a big storyline because a few years back both were sheltering treacherous intentions against each other and had a lot of bad blood. Interestingly, this did not last long enough following the fight, as Wilder gave a controversial take.

He said, “I think Jake got that one. I think the referee, that was an immature point deduction. I think they only gave it to Fury because of point taken. The referee’s supposed to give three warnings, he gave no warnings. Get out of here.”

Wilder meant that if a point wasn’t deducted from Jake Paul, the result would have gone down in his favor. But Wilder’s take did not sit well with the Furys. They got infuriated and launched an attack on Wilder. Fury’s younger brother Shawn Fury crossed all limits when asked about this.

What did Shawn Fury say about Deontay Wilder?

Shawn Fury dubbed Wilder with several terms. He said, “Deontay Wilder is a prick. You know Deontay Wilder talk about my brother for two years and when he seen him face to face, he come over and cuddled him like a bitch. That was the fact about it. He will say that because he is a prick.”

It would be safe to say that meeting rivals outside the ring and sharing an independent opinion on the fight are two very different things. Wilder could possibly have done the same. And there is no doubt, Referee’s calls in the ring on that night were controversial. However, he deducted points from both fighters which is another story.
