Is Anthony Joshua risking his career by rushing into a rematch with Daniel Dubois?

Ever since the loss against Daniel Dubois, the biggest question for the Matchroom Boxing has been the future of Anthony JoshuaMany fans and experts thought that the brutal 5th round knockout would be the end of his career. But AJ made it clear right after the fight when he stated, “I want to continue fighting,” with a determined look on his face.

Things escalated when even Eddie Hearn stated that Joshua wanted a “big fight.” As the days passed by, Joshua made his desire for the rematch clear. While both of the boxers are ready to duke it out once again, lots of external factors are affecting the fight. Almost every fan and expert is demanding Joshua take things slow, as an immediate rematch can be harmful. But the opposite of the consensus, which includes Heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora, thinks that AJ has to have his rematch immediately.

During an interview with IFL TV prominent matchmaker, Gareth A Davies and Chisora shared their opinions about AJ’s future. Davis was clear that Joshua should “Go easy on the order,” and pick other fights before Dubois. According to him, the 28-4 boxer still has five big fights left in him. For Davies, the first fight for AJ should be against Deontay Wilder or a rematch with Dillian Whyte, if a Matchroom can get it over the line. After that, he picked two fights against Tyson Fury and then the rematch against Dubois for the London native.

According to him, if AJ “gets mauled again by Daniel Dubois, it will be harder,” for him to bounce back. In Davies’ opinion, even though the 35-year-old is a “commercial juggernaut,” another loss against Dubois will put his future in jeopardy.

Derek Chisora, who was standing right next to the boxing insider, called Davies’ opinion as a businessman’s answer. He stated, “He is talking from a business perspective, do you understand. He’s got a suit on. I am an athlete,” while talking about the feelings of AJ associated with the rematch.

Chisora then proceeded to talk about the need for second chances in life and gave a Champions League analogy where every match involves 2 legs. “This is why the Champions League, there’s 2 legs. The away and the home game,” said Chisora. The 40-year-old is a huge Manchester United fan and stated that if his team loses in the tournament, they would have to win the reverse fixture to proceed and not go on to defeat any other small team.

Davies understood what Chisora was implying regarding the emotions of the fighters, but did not agree with the notion presented. That is when the former WBC Silver Heavyweight champion threw another analogy to support his answer. He asked Gareth A Davies, “Fall off a bike, would you say, I am gonna go ride a three-wheeler back for a couple of days and come back to a real bike?” He was implying that Joshua deserves another chance as he just fell off the bike once.

The 35-13 boxer walked off with a smug look after forcing Davies to agree with his analogy. Furthermore, this was not the first time that Derek Chisora had been in favor of the fight. In fact, a few weeks ago, he even predicted the winner if AJ and Dynamite clash once again.

Derek Chisora predicts the winner

Chisora talked with ‘Second Out’ and picked Anthony Joshua as the clear winner of the rematch. According to Chisora, AJ heavily underperformed in the clash, and “he froze the moment the bell rang. I think he froze from the moment he came out of his dressing room.” He further elaborated that Joshua “didn’t feel the floor in the ring, walk around, stuff like that. He didn’t do the things he usually does.”

Despite the major setback, Chisora thinks that AJ can make the necessary adjustments for the rematch. The London native has to make several changes and look at everything he did wrong in the first fight. Despite their mutual disagreement, it seems both Gareth A Davies and Derek Chisora are looking out for Anthony Joshua’s best interest.
