The former WBC Heavyweight champion of the world, Deontay Wilder has offered a plausible reason behind Errol Spence Jr.‘s loss to Terence Crawford last night. In his interaction with the media after the event, Wilder praised Crawford’s execution and commented on what likely gave ‘Bud’ an advantage against ‘The Truth’. Wilder said, Crawford “made it look easy“.
Speaking about the contest, Crawford kept the fight under his thumb from the very beginning. His fast and effective jab and pinpoint accuracy stole the show and made Spence Jr. vulnerable in the ring. In only the second round, Spence Jr. suffered the first knockdown of his pro career since his debut. To add to that, before round 7 ended, Spence Jr. was knocked down two more times. Frankly speaking, in keeping with Crystina Poncher‘s words, Spence Jr. did not at all confront ‘Bud’ with “the toughest fight of his [Crawford’s] career“.

According to Deontay Wilder, Errol Spence Jr. looked “a little drained” and likewise, could not execute “what he needed to“. In his opinion, over-hydration left Spence Jr. in the lurch and allowed Crawford to fish in troubled waters. “It seemed like Errol Spence was a little drained tonight, and he couldn’t really do what he needed to do. Bud definitely took advantage of that. He made it look easy,” Wilder told FightHype. By the by, he elaborately praised the first male two-time undisputed champ for the magnificent performance he delivered.

“Hats off to Terence, man. He fought a magnificent fight tonight. That’s what it’s all about. He proved that he was the best of them all. The way he did it, he did it with ease and calmness. He looked like he was in another dimension,” Wilder added. While he felt Crawford was on another level, Wilder emphasized, “I really think Errol over-dehydrated himself.” According to him, one could see it in Spence’s skin, eyes, and movement. However, Wilder lauded Spence Jr. for the fight he fought and concluded that it was a beautiful fight.
