Ahead of their February 14 bout at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York, the tension between Keyshawn Davis and Denys Berinchyk is escalating at an alarming rate. During Wednesday’s final press conference, Davis revealed that a box of bananas and watermelon was delivered to his hotel room.
He described the incident as an insult to his culture and widely racist, believing Berinchyk and his team were behind it. “Denys Berinchyk & his team sent this to my room. I never thought bro was racist but this fight just got a little more personal. #firstroundKO🫱🏾🫲🏿,” he wrote on X with a picture of the package he was sent.
The package also seems to have come with a note attached, which read, “Here’s a snack for all those hight jumps. Stay energized businesswom..” In response, Davis has vowed to knock out the Ukrainian champion. However, the 36-year-old WBO lightweight champion has denied the allegations in an attempt to clear his name.

Speaking through a translator after Wednesday’s presser, he claimed, “Denys don’t know about all of this stuff. He don’t send nothing and he don’t know.” The controversy, unfolding during Black History Month, has only heightened the intensity surrounding the fight.
Nonetheless, Davis and Berinchyk will clash for the latter’s WBO lightweight title, marking Davis’ first shot at a major championship. Interestingly, Berinchyk has further argued his innocence on the matter.
Denys Berinchyk says he doesn’t speak or write English after Keyshawn Davis’ allegation
During Wednesday’s press conference for the fight, Davis directly addressed the controversy, accusing the 36-year-old undefeated boxer and his team of being involved in the racist package sent to his hotel room. In response, Berinchyk firmly denied any connection, emphasizing that he doesn’t speak or write English.

“First thing I want to say is that I don’t speak English and I don’t write English,” Berinchyk responded through a translator. “Because I saw his message on [social] media. It’s weird even to mention this. Some people with bad intentions looking for some hype made this [package].”

Tensions escalated further when the two faced off after the press conference. Davis stood inches from Berinchyk’s face, repeatedly shouting, “racist.” Security quickly stepped in to separate the visibly heated fighters.
That said, it’s currently unclear whether Denys Berinchyk and his team were really involved in the package sent to Davis. But it’s worth noting that there’s no concrete evidence connecting the Ukrainian boxer to the package. Only further investigation may reveal the details of the incident. Regardless, we would love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
