Rolando Romero, one of the finest active lightweight prodigies, has announced that he will hang up his gloves. The 25-year-old doesn’t seem to have any particular reason that provoked him to take the call. However, Rolly’s recent social media post raised several eyebrows and also disheartened his fans.

Following Gervonta Davis’ win over Mario Barrios, Romero had called out ‘Tank’ for an in-ring scrap and thrilled the entire boxing world. Unfortunately, the fantasy fight doesn’t appear to be happening as Rolly has already claimed to have “quit” boxing. He wrote a short message on Twitter and shocked many people.

Meanwhile, he followed it up with several uncanny tweets. One of those social media posts even reflected that Rolando Romero is looking to open up an Only Fans account. Although there’s huge doubt regarding how these statements will play out in reality, Romero might have distanced himself from the sport at this stage.

That said, Romero had scored a sensational stoppage win over Anthony Yigit on July 17. As he leaped towards the 14-0 clean record, it opened up the doorways to bigger fights. Nevertheless, his recent social media posts might have put a dent in all those plans.

As of now, Romero doesn’t have an official opponent, but he can rightly face Gervonta Davis somewhere down the line. Hence, it will be unfair to rule out ‘Tank’ from Romero’s fighting radar.

The Las Vegas native has no such reasons to retire or quit the sport. In just over five years, he has become a top-tier persona and is now on the brink of fighting for a world title. Hence, it’s bizarre to see him “quit” at this very stage. Besides, a social media post is way too bleak to be regarded as an official statement.

So, it’s safe to believe that Romero isn’t going anywhere right now. His physical attributes also reflect the chances of him exploring other weight classes. Hence, we might see ‘Rolly’ reign as a pound-for-pound great in the future for all the obvious reasons.
