Every end is a new beginning. Showtime shocked everyone when it announced its exit from boxing. Paramount Global, the parent company of the network, announced that Showtime will cease broadcasting boxing events after 2023. While some have embraced the change, some have found it an opportunity to mend the structure itself. Pugilists like Terence Crawford, Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, and even Jake Paul have used this incident to call for a   greater involvement of boxers in the business.

Garcia, after his defeat against Gervonta Davis gave an interview to FightHub TV where he called for a rematch. In the same interview ‘KingRy’ also spoke about the discussions between him and Crawford regarding painting a new picture for the revered sport.

The 25-year-old boxer has a few plans when it comes to saving the sport which gives him his livelihood and stature. When asked about his opinions on Showtime exiting, following HBO’s footsteps, the boxer responded “I think there is a new way to do it. I think we as boxers need to come together and collectively come up with a solution to keep boxing thriving because it is a great sport. I touched on it on Twitter.” Garcia feels the sport needs to focus on marketing, attracting new audiences, engaging investors, and expanding globally. The need of the hour according to him, is to envision boxing in a new way.

He has taken this up with Crawford, who shares a similar sentiment. “Me and Terence Crawford have had conversations and wouldn’t be talking more about you know some plans and just and just trying to like re-innovate.” You know what’s going on there has to, you know I feel like I have the mind to do it.” Garcia trusts himself and the undefeated champion to bring forth a new dawn. “I’m here to show the new blueprint.” Fans await the new developments that will unfold with the two taking steps towards their vision to redefine boxing.

Terence Crawford at loggerheads with Oscar De La Hoya

Amid discussions about the way forward, voices clamor with opinions. Oscar De La Hoya and ‘Bud’ clashed over boxers’ involvement in business matters. De La Hoya was a six-division world champion before he decided to become a promoter. Drawing from his experience, he argued that fighters should focus solely on training, leaving the business to their skilled teams. Crawford disagreed, emphasizing the importance of fighters’ roles.
