On February 1, 2025, David Morrell will face the biggest challenge in his career when he faces David Benavidez. In the clash of Davids, the duo will not only put their undefeated streak on the line but will also break each other apart for a chance at the undisputed light heavyweight championship.
Morrell’s rise to the top has been rapid and has taken everyone by surprise. After dominating the 168 lbs division, his move to the light heavyweight has been successful. He started gaining popularity after defeating Lennox Allen to claim the vacant WBA interim super-middleweight title on August 8, 2020. His earnings rose significantly thereafter. For instance, for his June 2021 bout against Mario Abel Cazares, he received nearly $350,000. Almost a year later, on November 4, 2022, he faced Aidos Yerbossynuly and earned another six-figure check of $400,000.
2023 was an amazing year for Morrell, as he headlined two consecutive events in the super middleweight division. He broke his own payday record when he received a $500,000 payout for his fight against Yamaguchi Falcao.
In 2024, David Morrell made a jump to 175 and faced Radivoje Kalajdzic with the WBA regular title on the line. For the fight, he earned significantly less than what he was doing at super middleweight. According to reports, his purse payout against Kalajdzic was between $80,000 and $100,000 with the sponsorships and PPV deals, taking his payday up to $120,000.

How much will David Morrell earn against David Benavidez?
As of now, the PBC has not disclosed specific details regarding the purse split for the upcoming February 1 clash. However, based on David Morrell’s career trajectory and everything that PBC has riding on this PPV, we can assume that it will be a huge improvement over his last paydays.
Furthermore, David Benavidez might be the third-best guy at 175 after Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol at the moment. The duo will also headline the event and will have their respective titles on the lines, increasing the stakes even further. Experts are also predicting this fight to be an early contender for Fight of the Year.
Even though Benavidez might take the majority purse split, given everything, we can safely assume that this might be Osvary Morrell’s highest payday to date. He might even break the seven-figure barrier and earn close to a $1 million paycheck, rising to $1.5 million to $2 million considering all the sponsorships and PPV revenue.
