Can Caroline Dubois surpass her brother Daniel in the boxing world? What do you think?

Boxing runs in the Dubois family. Growing up under the watchful eye of the patriarch of the family, Dave Dubois, the eldest Daniel Dubois, and his siblings Caroline, Solomon, and Prince, were nurtured, and primed to be professional boxers. Safe to say, the entire family should be there to support Daniel as he goes up against Anthony Joshua in a couple of hours at the packed Wembley stadium. After all, it will be his first world title defense against a man who is looking to become a three-time world champion.

The Dubois siblings are quite supportive of each other’s dreams and ambitions. And there isn’t an iota of jealousy between each of them. Following Dubois’ footsteps, Caroline, Solomon, and Prince, are also destined to be world champions, if their father is to be believed. So, let’s take a closer look at their boxing journeys, especially Caroline’s, as she has already made significant strides in her career.

The 27-year-old British fighter has always been very complimentary of his sister Carlone’s boxing talent and is very grateful for the support he receives from her whenever he steps inside the ring to trade fists. “Caroline’s my most supportive fan. When I fight, she is so verbal, and it’s good to see that passion,” Daniel stated in one of his media interviews. Caroline, at 23 years old, is a professional boxer with 10 bouts under her belt. Making her professional debut in 2022, she has laid claim to the interim WBC women’s lightweight world title after defeating Maira Moneo in August this year. Furthermore, she also won the IBO World Lightweight title last year after beating Magali Rodriguez on the judges’ scorecard via unanimous decision.

Caroline started boxing when she was nine, and her father wanted her to practice at Repton Amateur Boxing Club, where his brother Daniel also trained during his amateur years. “He took me to the Repton amateur boxing club–but back in the day, it was Repton Boys’ Club and they didn’t allow girls. But my dad likes challenges and he’s a rebel. So he said I should call myself Carl and pretend to be a boy,” she revealed in an interview with the Guardian.

However, the ploy didn’t last long, as one of the boxing coaches found out that she was a girl, and was subsequently banished from the club. Thereafter, she started training at Dale Boxing Club, and accolades followed soon after she started.

Caroline has won the European Junior Boxing Championships four times. In 2016, she won the European Junior Boxing Championships in the 54kg weight class. The rest of her European championship belts came in the 60kg weight class, in 2017, 2018, and 2019 respectively. Apart from that, she also won the English National Youth Championships twice in 2018 and 2019.

Caroline became the Women’s Youth World Boxing Champion in 2018. She was also the gold medalist at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, beating Porntip Buapa. In 2019, Caroline was named the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

She also qualified for the Tokyo Olympics but was knocked out of the tournament by Thai fighter, Sudaporn Seesondee, returning to the UK without a medal. In 2020, Carline expressed her wish to turn professional, and in February 2022, she made her professional debut against Vaida Masiokaite, winning on points. Safe to say, the future is bright for the undefeated lightweight boxer who has already won world titles in the 135-pound division.

Dubois’ younger brothers Solomon and Prince are also on their way to becoming professional boxers. Out of the two, Daniel Dubois is particularly amazed by his youngest brother Solomon who is “the most gifted boxer”. “He’s only eight, but he’s doing things I still struggle to do. Where we have failed, I know Solomon will be able to improve and be better than all of us,” the twenty-seven-year-old boxer stated proudly in a media interview.

Meanwhile, in an interview with The Guardian, the patriarch of the Dubois family, Dave, stated that he was also certain about the success of Prince, who was named after the legendary British boxer Prince Naseem Hamed. “Boxing came easily because at home everyone would always be practising. Now, at Repton, there’s no one my age to spar so I box the senior men. The plan is to follow Caroline–go to the Olympics one day and turn pro,” Prince stated, laying out the plan for his future in boxing.

Dave Dubois has a lot of hope from all four of his boxer kids. “I’ve always liked boxing because it shapes your character and so with Daniel I thought, even before he was born: ‘He’s going to be a world champion.’ We’re now immersed in boxing. Caroline is No 1 in the world. I always kept them focused and disciplined,” he stated.
