A few days ago, reports regarding the potential Conor McGregor vs. Logan Paul exhibition boxing fight surfaced to shock the fighting world. McGregor himself confirmed the news as he took to ‘X’ to announce a potential $250 million payout in the event hosted by the Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani.

The announcement has divided the combat sports world, as many experts are downright criticizing the bout. Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen is on top of that list, as he termed this decision by Ambanis as “stupid.” He also stated that while the idea of the fight seems desirable, it just won’t happen.

The fact that an individual would invest such an amount to promote their country’s tourism seems unfathomable to him. A few days ago, ‘The Bad Guy’ once again ranted about the fight, claiming that promoters approached him to promote the fight and that the billionaire family also contacted UFC honcho Dana White.

Dana White roped in by Ambani family

While taking on his YouTube channel, Sonnen informed the fans that both Conor McGregor and Logan Paul are under the TKO contract. However, that does not mean that they are untouchable, and for the right amount, White will release them. “They’re both under contract with TKO. You could get that done as silly as it would be, but if you want to write a check, you can definitely get that done. And now it’s sounding that that’s exactly how they’re doing it. They’re going through WME,” stated Sonnen.

While McGregor still has two fights under his UFC contract, his rumored opponent Logan Paul just penned down a new deal with WWE. TKO Group Holdings serves as his parent company overseeing both the UFC and WWE. Sonnen claimed that the Ambanis are using Endeavor Group Holdings, which owns 51% of TKO, to sort out those contracts.

The former UFC star further revealed that the Ambani family contacted him to break the news that they have roped in Dana White in the negotiations. “What they contacted to tell me is that Dana White is involved. As a matter of fact, Dana White has even made a statement about it, and the statement was we got a fight going.”, stated Sonnen.

While Chael Sonnen still believes that the idea of this fight is stupid, he praised the way that the Ambani family is going about it. This might make this boxing extravanganza a reality.

Sonnen added that according to everything he has heard, the Ambanis are doing everything by the book. They are not trying to poach either fighter from their respective promotions or do something that can hurt the chance of this fight happening. “So the way that this story is being told directly from this organization directly to me is that they are doing everything right they’re not attempting to poach two fighters from other places. They’re going to their managers,d they’re getting a card out, they’re working out a deal,” revealed Sonnen.

“The American Gangster” even appreciated being contacted because it cleared much of his confusion. He assured Ambanis that they, “can count on me as somebody that will discuss the event.” However, in no way does he support this match, nor does he want Mukesh Ambani to “fire the terrible consultants that you’ve got? If you want to put on a boxing event—find yourself a couple of boxers.”
