A lot is riding on one of the most talented prospects of The Money Team. Dubbed to be the “Next Floyd Mayweather Jr.”, Curmel Moton has got the weight of the world on his shoulders. And, he is still just a teenager! With just three professional bouts under his belt, the comparisons can only be regarded as unfair. But, he seems to be relishing his days in the spotlight.

The teenager has a befitting response for anyone who thinks that nobody watches his fights. He comes armed with evidence: one of his bouts has generated 1.8 Million views on YouTube. This begs the question: Can Moton match Floyd’s PPV numbers? If you are vouched by Floyd Mayweather, there will be considerable interest in you. Safe to say, ‘Money’ has gotten the Midas touch. Training at the Mayweather gym since he was a kid, he had the opportunity to witness Mayweather go through his routines. Learning from the best, it seems he also picked up on the self-confidence needed to be on top of the boxing game.

Moton’s last entry into the ring was for his third professional bout against Anthony Cuba on March 30 under the PBC-Amazon Prime’s newly formed partnership on the Tim TszyuSebastian Fundora two-belt junior middleweight title fight card at T-Mobile Arena.  The super-featherweight bout ended in a Unanimous Decision win for the 18-year-old boxer. Moton highlighted for his critics that the fight had “1.8 Million views” on YouTube, debunking speculations about there not being significant interest in the fighter. “Oh and for the ones that say “nobody watches my fights”. Like I said one of the biggest prospects in boxing. 3 fights. 17 at the time.” For a teenager, with just three fights under his belt, it’s quite an achievement indeed!

The Cuba fight was the first globally televised event of Curmel’s career. Anthony, a formerly undefeated prospect, who trained with four-weight world champion Leo Santa Cruz, received the first loss of his record as he was outclassed by Moton. Before the March 30 bout this year, he featured in swing bouts on the Canelo Alvarez vs Jermell Charlo and Demetrius Andrade vs Davis Benavidez fight cards.  He performed exceptionally in both those bouts as he secured first-round knockouts against Ezequiel Flores and Hunter Turbyfill respectively.

Honing his skills in the Mayweather gym, Moton has sparred with the likes of world champions like Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Shakur Stevenson. The Money Team’s plan is to make the 18-time national champion in the amateur curcuit, who got special permission from the Nevada State Athletic Commission to turn pro at age seventeen, a teenage world champion. A title fight has eluded him till now, but it is only a matter of time before the Mayweather-mentored prospect gets his first shot.

However, one of his former stablemates Gervonta Davis robbed him of a chance to feature in a high-profile event that would have boosted his marketability as a fighter.

 A costly snub?

Reportedly, Curmel Moton’s proximity to the Mayweather camp cost him the opportunity to feature on the Gervonta Davis–Frank Martin main event co-headlined by  David Benavidez and Oleksandr Gvozdyk‘s light-heavyweight clash on June 15. The much-publicized spat between Davis and Mayweather has trickled down to the latter’s stable of fighters as well.

Next time, be a man of ya own…lil clown a** ni**g. Don’t forget the reason why you throwing up that ape shit..” Davis wrote on X, giving Moton a harsh reality check.

Meanwhile, Moton did not feature Davis in the top five boxers list. But, he made it clear that it wasn’t because he was salty. The teenage prodigy of the Mayweather camp cited Davis’ lack of undisputed status to be the reason for the snub.

Nonetheless, do you think Curmel Moton will live up to the enormous expectation that is being thrust upon him? Can he mimic Floyd’s unbeaten record? Let us know in the comment section below.
