Eighteen-year-old junior lightweight phenom Curmel Moton has taken the boxing community by storm with back-to-back fights in the past few months. However, after his last skirmish against Anthony Cuba, Moton’s first fight that went the distance, ‘Big Deal’ seems to be facing some issues finding an opponent for himself.
Undefeated Moton started his professional boxing career in September last year on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo undercard and delivered two consecutive first-round knockout wins. Yet as he looks forward to his next fight, despite finally finding an opponent, Moton couldn’t help but share his struggles in doing so!

Earlier today, the eighteen-year-old hopped on X to write in a now deleted tweet, “Been rough finding an opponent went through almost 6 guys from undefeated to dudes over 30 fights but props Nikolai [Buzolin] for accepting. Ima put on a great performance everyone tune in”. The fight is supposed to go down on Saturday 6th July at Anaheim, California, live on Fanmio pay-per-view.

The event will be headlined by the highly anticipated boxing match between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal, who originally clashed in the octagon at UFC 244 in 2019, a bout notable for the introduction of the BMF title belt. Although Masvidal emerged victorious five years ago due to a severe gash above Diaz’s eye that necessitated a stoppage, the forthcoming match promises to rekindle their fierce rivalry.
While Moton is about to step inside the ring for the fourth time in his professional boxing career at the age of eighteen, people around him are expecting big things from the ‘Big Deal’.

Despite never featuring in the telecasted section of an event, Ellerbe suggested Moton will “be very busy this year. He’ll be a world champion within a year”. Ellerbe even highlighted that they had enough confidence in the then seventeen-year-old to pit him against a world champion, Leigh Wood, even though the fight never happened.
However, now Ellerbe has been replaced by Richard Schaefer as the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, and he might have different plans for the biggest young prospect in the Mayweather stable. At the same time, Moton has never been short on confidence—after his debut win, he suggested he felt ready to face Wood already.

Interestingly, big names in the community like Shakur Stevenson had labelled him ‘The Truth’ while comparing the young star to Naoya Inoue. Not to mention Bozy Ennis praised the youngsters, suggesting he is a force to be reckoned with.
Curmel Moton’s strong start in professional boxing, coupled with his impressive support, has made it challenging for him to secure opponents. Nevertheless, fans will be thrilled to know that he will be back in action this coming weekend. Are you looking forward to the fight?
