It has been a week since the official trailer for Creed III was released, the third installment of the franchise. Prior to the launch of the trailer, the appearance of the Mexican star Canelo Alvarez was confirmed in Creed III. With the release of the trailer for Creed III, the audience now caught a glimpse of the unified super middleweight champion of the world alongside Michael B. Jordan’s character Adonis Creed.

Creed III will hit the theatres on March 3, 2023. Speaking of the incorporation of Mexican fighters in the film, apart from Alvarez, the audience saw David Benavidez too. Recently, star and director Michael B. Jordan explained why he signed Canelo.

According to Jordan, the franchise initially lacked Mexican characters in the ring. Jordan felt the “Mexican culture” was a pillar within the sport. Because of this belief, Jordan signed Canelo and gave him a role in Creed III. Considering the lack of Mexican characters in the film, Jordan confessed saying, “[It] didn’t seem truthful and honest to the sport of boxing.”

Alvarez fought his last on September 17th. A little prior to facing GGG for the third time, Jordan visited Alvarez in the latter’s locker room. Regarding the representation of Mexican culture in Creed, here is what Jordan added next.

Jordan felt there was an insufficient representation of Mexican characters throughout the films. In order to change that, he brought along Canelo. While boxing fans wait to see Alvarez on the silver screen, here’s what Jordan added about Mexican culture and its influence on the sport.

“Mexican culture is such a pillar within the sport.” “…felt like there wasn’t really a lot of representation throughout the films in that type of way,” added Jordan. Hopefully, Creed III will make adequate use of Alvarez and his skills. Creed fans cannot wait to see the franchise’s treatment of Alvarez in Creed III.
