Floyd Mayweather never truly hung up his gloves despite his 2017 retirement. He still remains as active as ever. This was evident in a training clip shared today on social media by Boxing Kingdom, showcasing Mayweather’s undiminished prowess with the boxing gloves.

The retired boxing legend has his exhibition rematch coming up on August 23rd in Mexico City against John Gotti III. Meanwhile, he is busy in the gym practicing his rhythmic moves on the heavy bag with jabs, crosses, and hooks galore. However, despite the great form displayed by Mayweather as he went in on the heavy bag, the clip failed to stand out among the fans.

While sharing Mayweather’s dance with the heavy bag, Boxing Kingdom wrote, “Floyd Mayweather destroying the Heavy Bag at 47 years old”. However, the clip was originally shared on July 10th on Instagram by The International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Wellness Pro Natasha Peay, who works for Floyd Mayweather.

Peay expressed deep gratitude to the five-division champion, stating, “Surround yourself with the best to unlock your full potential and achieve greatness. Grateful for the privilege of working under the guidance of the best boss for nearly 15 years. I genuinely love my job. Thank you, @floydmayweather, for the countless opportunities over the years. I am forever grateful and truly blessed to be in the position I am in today.”

Floyd Mayweather has fought the likes of Logan Paul, Don Moore, Mikuru Asakura, and Deji in exhibition bouts since his retirement from the sport in 2017. However, ahead of his rematch with John Gotti III when the clip surfaced on X today, fans were less than impressed with Floyd Mayweather. Why?

Destroying might not be the best word!

Floyd Mayweather was best known for his defense rather than punching power, not to say he didn’t have any. So, fans quickly corrected the caption, while offering their own versions of it. One user claimed Mayweather couldn’t destroy any of his opponents in his prime. However, his 27 knockout wins out of 50 do prove that he indeed can.

Another user claimed the bag was unharmed because Floyd punches like a lightweight. It’s worth mentioning that Floyd Mayweather fought in several weight classes, and wherever he went, he found success.

Someone else took the mocking and sarcasm to the next level, asking whether the caption was supposed to mean massaging. Notably, fighters often used heavy bags to enhance their strength, stamina, and conditioning besides just punching to improve power.

The next user echoed similar sentiments as he suggested–even in Floyd’s prime, he never destroyed a punching bag. But think about it, what’s the point of destroying a punching bag? When the main goal is to enhance coordination and accuracy.
