With the weatherman sharing regular updates on the topical storm ‘Beryl’ making a landfall in Texas, the citizenry is bound to get worried. The storm originates in the Gulf of Mexico. Experts expect it to turn into a hurricane as it touches the city of Corpus Christi on Monday morning. For the unbeaten boxing prodigy Vergil Ortiz Jr., it’s a natural cause for concern. After all, his home in Grand Prairie is six hours away from the southern Texas city.
Ahead of his comeback, he reunited with his former coach, legendary trainer Robert Garcia. Hence, he might be undergoing training at the latter’s famed boxing academy in California. However, the weather report was enough for the 100% KO artist to caution fellow Texans about the approaching storm. Next month, on August 10, he will face interim light middleweight champion Serheii Bohachuk in Las Vegas.

The detailed report in CNN stated that tropical storm Beryl had been gaining strength in the Gulf of Mexico. Gradually, it is setting out in the direction of south Texas. The storm is anticipated to be this year’s first in the Atlantic hurricane season, touching down on the nation’s shores.
The story cited information received from the National Hurricane Center. It revealed that people could expect Beryl to dock near Corpus Christi. It would be categorized as a hurricane falling into Category 1. According to the experts, from late Sunday onwards, the citizens might witness destructive storms and winds. Then floods and power outages might follow as well.
Reportedly, because of ‘Beryl’, already nine people on the Caribbean coasts—the islands and the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico—have lost their lives. Even the authorities in Texas have warned residents to remain vigilant. Only last month, the region saw the arrival of tropical storm Alberto. As a responsible resident of the state, Vergil Ortiz’s anxieties are in place, along with those of the thousands who might have to bear through the storm/hurricane’s wrath.
Storm nearing the ring?
Regarding boxing, the 26-year-old returned to the ring after an absence of nearly eighteen months. He had to stay out on account of medical reasons, including a blood disorder called rhabdomyolysis. However, he announced his return on January 6 with his trademark early stoppage of Frederick Lawson. He barely deviated from the process as he wound up Puerto Rican Thomas Dulorme in the first round of their square-up on April 27.

Subsequently, he had a high-profile fight scheduled against Tim Tszyu on the August 3 Riyadh Season fight card at Los Angeles’ BMP stadium. However, the fight met with cancellation. The Australian boxer received a clear denial to proceed with a fight as he needed more time to recuperate from the injuries he suffered during the March 30 Sebastian Fundora fight. As a result, Serheii Bohachuk entered the scene.
