Coach Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre has the utmost faith in his famous charge’s abilities. After establishing his supremacy in the welterweight division, on August 3, Terence Crawford will embark on a fresh campaign. This time, his target would be the light middleweight division. He has challenged the WBA title holder Israil Madrimov. The duo will meet in Los Angeles on a big Riyadh Season card. But many fans and critics feel that ‘Bud’s sights are actually fixed elsewhere. It’s been some time since talks of a fight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez emerged. While the former has always been candid about his interest in the match-up, the latter has been by and large evasive.

In fact, given the three weight-class differences, ‘Bud’s move to claim a title at 154 pounds might as well be deemed a step to narrow the difference. Even the biggest voice in contemporary boxing, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, seems very keen to see both boxers enter a fight. Amidst all these probables, there’s also another big question. Let’s say the fight with Canelo Alvarez comes about. The outcome could be anything. But what would be ‘Bud’ Crawford’s next move thereafter? The Nebraska-born Southpaw will turn 37 this September. So will the Canelo fight be that last fight—his swan song—that will not only seal his legacy but also fill his coffers?

Marcos Villegas was in discussion with ‘Bomac’ McIntyre. As the interview neared its end, the former took up Terence Crawford’s career journey. “It seems crazy to like people looking on the outside that a guy that has gone believe he started his career at 35, right? Terrence ends at 68 in a Canelo fight and moving from 47-54 and then ends up fighting Canelo at 68 and then he pulls off the win that seems just freaking…” he said.

Brian McIntyre replied that Terence Crawford has it in him to pull off a feat so great. So if he wants to conclude his journey in boxing at 168 pounds, then it clearly shows the level of confidence he has in himself. As someone so close to him, Bomac knows that the welterweight champion is destined for greatness.

When the Fight Hub TV founder asked, “And if you guys win this the Undisputed titles at 68?Pat came the reply from the distinguished trainer: “I mean, we could all can retire from that; after that, you know what I’m saying, we can retire after that, and we just sit back and do what you doing.” That surely had Marcos Villegas burst into laughter.

Earlier, the duo discussed in detail the welterweight champion’s prospects against Uzbek champion Israil Madrimov. Their conversation moored at Errol Spence Jr. and Canelo Alvarez.

Like Crawford, Spence Jr. is also moving up a division to face Sebastian Fundora. McIntyre shrugged off when the Fight Hub TV founder asked whether there were any chances of a rematch between Spence Jr. and ‘Bud’. Then the obvious question popped up. Villegas wanted to know whether the ascent to the light middleweight division was “like a a process to get to a Canelo fight so that the weight difference isn’t so much.” Brian McIntyre replied casually that if people want to view it like that, then they are free to do so. However, the fact remains that Terence Crawford has sparred much bigger guys in the past.

McIntyre gave some hints on what he thought of Crawford’s chances against the Mexican icon. He said, “I just looked at uh Canelo like he can be beaten; he’s been beat before, so he definitely but got the tools to beat him…but I know but has the tools to beat him, so that’s the most important thing to me.

It’s interesting to note that even Errol Spence Jr. has given hints of retirement after the Fundora fight. Surely age is not an ally both boxing champions can rely on any further. ‘Bud’ Crawford remains the favorite to win on August 3. So whether he will stay back in the division? Or, go for title unification and then attempt to become an undisputed champion in a record third division? No one has a clear answer. Then there’s also a possibility that Spence Jr. defeats Fundora and meets up with Crawford during unification. Hence, it’s not curtains down altogether. Perhaps both Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. still have a lot to offer the sport.
