Jake Paul is ready to change the boxing landscape, especially for women. The Problem Child already had the seven-division world champion and the first undisputed Puerto Rican boxing champion, Amanda Serrano, under his MVP banner on a lifetime deal. So, last week, when MVP announced the signing of undisputed super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner, one of the most popular women boxers in the world, it surely surprised everyone, solidifying their influence in combat sports.

With Paul and Nakisa Bidarian at the helm, MVP now represents two of boxing’s top women. Furthermore, with the promotion running Amanda SerranoKatie Taylor 3 in an all-female card on July 11, it seems like the prime destination for female fighters. However, despite the growing influence of Most Valuable Promotions, the only three-division undisputed champion in boxing, Claressa Shields, has no interest in joining their roster. Why?

Claressa Shields: No dice for a supporting role

In a conversation with FightHype after the Mikaela Mayer-Sandy Ryan press conference, Claressa Shields put aside her rivalry with Alycia Baumgardner and congratulated her on her new deal with MVP. “Hopefully now she gets to Amanda Serrano or Katie Taylor and can show her skills. But congrats to her. I really have no problem with that,” she stated.

Yet, Shields was adamant about not joining MVP herself. Her decision wasn’t influenced by her ongoing feud with Jake Paul or Baumgardner. Instead, it stemmed from her unwillingness to take a secondary role. Reportedly, The Bomb is expected to be on the undercard of Serrano-Taylor 3, a position The GWOAT can’t accept.

“I’m never going to sign to an MVP. I am never going to fight the undercard of Amanda Serrano or Katie Taylor. It’s not because I don’t like them. I do like both of them. It’s just that pound-for-pound number one don’t fight on the undercard of nobody and that’s just how it is,” she declared bluntly.

Well, it looks like Claressa Shields has pretty much made up her mind and nothing seems likely to sway her. However, the signing of Baumgardner is also a big adjustment for Amanda Serrano, who is the face of the women’s division in MVP. Some worry that Baumgardner might overshadow her. However, The Real Deal has something to say about that.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Claressa Shields right to reject MVP, or is she missing out on a golden opportunity?

Amanda Serrano is here to stay

Serrano’s explanation came after a fan on ‘X’ speculated Serrano’s fate of playing second fiddle to Baumgardner in the future. She responded, “Lol not true. We are a solid team & my place is established. It’s time for others to make what I’ve made. I can’t do this forever!” revealing that there is no bad blood between the two top women.

She went further, sharing her vision, “I’ll help build the company to have girls that can do even bigger things that I’ve done.” Serrano has played a key role in making MVP a hub for female boxing talent. This was evident when MVP announced the signing of unified bantamweight Dina Thorsland, rising prospect Nat Dove, WBC 108lbs Youth world champion Naomy Valle, and TIME Person of the Year Ramla Ali, on just Friday. While it might be for the July 11 All-female card, Serrano has played a huge role in getting them here.

“My blessings are mine & everyone of these ladies will have theirs. Rightfully so,” Serrano concluded, dismissing every doubt regarding her position in the promotion. While a card featuring Amanda Serrano, Katie Taylor, Alycia Baumgardner, and Claressa Shields would be a dream for fans, it’s not in the cards right now.

We can hope for a future where Paul and Claressa Shields would have buried their hatchet and MVP would offer the GWOAT a position she desires on an even bigger card. But let’s not get our hopes up too much just yet. Do you think Claressa Shields should sign with MVP? Let us know your thoughts down below.
