Claressa Shields is regarded as one of the best female boxers of this generation. Since her professional boxing debut in 2016, the American fighter has built a name for herself. Recently the 27-year-old was interviewed about the present boxing scene. She was asked about the Youtube sensation Jake Paul, and here’s what she had to say about him.

While talking to The Schmo, she was asked about a Tommy Fury vs. Jake Paul clash, “There’s rumblings Jake Paul is going to be boxing Tommy Fury in August. What do you make that, you think the ship sailed for that fight already though?”

To which Shields replied, “Tommy Fury is a real boxer also. I just don’t, I’ve never really watched him, but hopefully, you know, I like what Jake Paul is doing. He’s bought a whole bunch of attention to women’s boxing and just to boxing. It’s just about him respecting the sport and if you’re gonna you know, be calling out Canelo and all that kind of stuff, you have to at least fight against a real fighter and not be using you know everybody’s name for clout.”

Apparently, ’T-Rex’ feels that ‘The Problem Child’ is doing great things for women’s boxing. But, she further added that he needs to fight some real boxers before calling out big names like Canelo Alvarez. 

Jake Paul’s contribution to women’s boxing 

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano carved their names in the history of women’s boxing by putting forth one of the biggest women’s fights. The two lit the Madison Square Garden on fire by settling scores in front of a sellout crowd. It was a sensational cutthroat 10-round fight, but in the end, Taylor was announced as the winner by decision. 

With a fight of this scale, there were bound to be some major names engaged. Aside from the two top boxers, their promoters drew a lot of attention as well. Serrano’s promoter was boxing’s rising star boy Jake Paul, while Taylor’s was Matchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn.

The tweet certainly depicts Paul’s passion for the sport. The YouTuber turned boxer turned pro in 2020. But, within a very short period, he has taken the world by storm. With his unbeatable record of (5-0-0) and his contribution to boxing overall justifies that he has come here to stay.
