Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. are leaving no stone unturned to hype up their upcoming fight on April 26. From cracking an egg on Benn’s skull to digging into personal jabs, the duo has pulled out every trick in the book. Three years back, this clash could have been the hottest thing. Only if it wasn’t for Benn’s positive d**g test derailing the fight.

Though it may never reclaim that peak hype, the pair is working hard on setting Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ablaze. Yet, amidst the chaos, the real hype for the fight came not from the duo’s stunts, but rather from DAZN finally emerging victorious in a drawn-out, behind-the-scenes war.

DAZN takes a massive step against piracy

On Monday, Boxing Kingdom took to their ‘X’ account to declare, “Illegal Sports Streams could be coming to an end in 2025.” The reason behind the optimism comes from DAZN and Telecompaper winning their legal battle against illegal stream ISPs. The tweet mentioned, “DAZN & other broadcasters have just won a court ruling that secures ISP bans on hundreds of illegal sport streaming websites.” As a heavyweight in boxing, DAZN holds exclusive rights to Matchroom and Queensberry bouts, alongside streaming soccer matches across Europe.

The company, partnering with Telecompaper, had been waging a war on piracy and they have finally landed a KO. Through their 12th Player platform, they have obtained an injunction to block 100 streaming websites and five IPTV platforms over copyright infringement in Belgium.

DAZN’s own data revealed a loss of around a billion annually, as a third of Belgians aged 16-24 use illegal streams to watch football. “We’re getting to the stage where it’s almost a crisis for the sports rights industry,” said DAZN’s head of global rights, Tom Burrows to The Athletic. “In the past, the broadcasters have funded the financial gap (caused by piracy) but I don’t think that’s going to continue and, if we can’t find a way to bridge that gap, it will be the sports themselves that suffer,” he added.

With Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. the next major PPV boxing event for DAZN, this crackdown might immediately juice up their streaming numbers. Furthermore, if Junior takes up Conor Benn’s advice, the fight can even be bigger.

Conor Benn has made it personal

After their chaotic face-off in February, Conor Benn sat down with Piers Morgan alongside Chris Eubank Jr. The verbal jabs continued, but the conversation took a more serious turn when Eubank Jr.’s father was mentioned.

For years, the 35-year-old has been trying to carve his own path, stepping out from under his dad’s towering legacy. Furthermore, Senior had also long opposed reviving the Benn-Eubank feud, having clashed with Conor’s father, Nigel Benn, twice in their heyday. So, in the build-up of the Benn-Eubank Jr. fight, Eubank Jr.’s father has been absent from his corner.

Something which was not missed by Conor Benn. “It’s sad to see that the relationship ain’t working on their end,” he said, dropping the trash talk for a moment. “It would be great to see you and your dad in your corner. I mean that. No sarcasm,” he concluded.

Undoubtedly, the involvement of Chris Eubank Sr. will increase the stakes of the fights tenfold. But so far, neither father nor son has made a move to bridge that gap. Leaving that aside, who is your pick as the winner in this legacy clash? Let us know your thoughts down below.
