2024 was a sensational year for women’s boxing and it reached a new height, breaking almost every previous record. Now, Caroline Dubois and Jessica Camara have the responsibility to keep it going as the duo prepares to face each other on January 11, 2025, at the Park Community Arena, Sheffield in the first major women’s title fight of the year for the women’s WBC lightweight championship.
Caroline Dubois, sister of IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, already held the IBO lightweight championship and was promoted to full WBC champion after Katie Taylor vacated the belt a few weeks after fighting Amanda Serrano. A victory here will increase Dubois’ chances of facing Terri Harper or Katie Taylor, matches that she has been patiently desiring for a long time now.
Even though ‘Sweet Caroline’ has huge plans, she knows better than to look past Jessica Camara. In an interview with Sky Sports, Dubois claimed that ‘Cobra’ is “tough. She is game. A world title fight is always going to bring the best out of people,” acknowledging the challenge that the veteran brings.

Will the champion prevail to continue her trajectory towards the top? Or will Camara shock the world with a huge upset that will completely change the scenario of the lightweight division? We will get our answer in a few days. But before that happens, let’s have a look at how they stack up against each other.
Caroline Dubois vs. Jessica Camara: Clash of Generations
Dubois has taken the lightweight division by storm and has been undefeated so far. Don’t let her alias ‘Sweet Caroline’ fool you; once she enters the ring, she becomes a warrior. The London southpaw boasts an unblemished record of 10-0 with a 50% KO rate. All five of her KO victories came in her first six matches, which makes it clear that she focuses more on speed, technique, and sharp combinations.

The 23-year-old is considerably fast even for the lightweight division and her 5’5 small frame, combined with her exceptional footwork and head movement, allows her to deliver pinpoint attacks. In her last three fights, Caroline Dubois has improved her defense, which is reflected in the unanimous decisions she received. She likes to take fight to her opponent which makes it an interesting affair. One thing is for sure, if you are watching Dubois in action, you won’t be bored at all.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Jessica Camara's experience topple the undefeated Caroline Dubois, or is Dubois simply unstoppable?

On the other hand, Jessica Camara is a veteran, who made her professional debut in 2017. The Canadian is a versatile fighter known for her strategic and slick style. While she does not boast an undefeated record like Dubois, she has more fights and more wins under her belt. Her record of 14-4 (3 KOs) includes fights against the likes of Kali Reis, and her victory over the likes of Hyun Mi Choi and Heather Hardy proves her mettle.
The 36-year-old has been on a tear recently, winning five out of the last six fights and she would like to continue that run. Camara boasts a solid defense and thrives in counter-punching situations. Over the years, she has improved her ring IQ and is good at circling and pivoting to create new angles of attack.
Coming in at 5’6, she has a similar reach as Caroline Dubois and coincidentally both fighters even weighed almost the same in their last fight, coming in at 133.5lbs. So, as physicality has gone out of the window, both boxers will have to rely on their skills and technical prowess.
Prediction: who wins it?
Caroline Dubois stands out in the lightweight division due to her speed and power. However, what makes her a killer in the ring is her confidence and arrogance. Her never back down attitude and to take the fight to the opponent from the first bell. However, this aggressive pressing leaves openings that Camara can take advantage of. Something that she did brilliantly against the former world champion Hyun Mi Choi last year.

It took her time, but it looks like ‘The Cobra’ has finally found her foot in this sport. She would like to continue on that trajectory and cause a massive upset against the heavy favorite Dubois. Three years ago, while entering her first title fight, the Cambridge native declared, “I am bringing that title.” While she failed at that time, she might want to rectify that mistake.
It is expected for the veteran to be cautious and calculative in the earlier stages, as the champion is going to take charge. Dubois will try to get an advantage with an early barrage so that she can control the fight later. Pundits and experts would favor the London native as the heavy favorite just because of how her career has panned out.

But if Camara somehow takes this fight deep, she can take advantage of the rare openings. However, her limited power as compared to Dubois might prevent her from doing that. Her counter-punching ability might also suffer because of just how quick the champion is. But if she can counter Dubois’s speed, she might have a chance. Otherwise, this match looks like another stepping stone for the champ to go on to bigger things.
