Carlos Adames and Janibek Alimkhanuly have been at the top of the middleweight division ever since Jermall Charlo vacated the throne. With Adames holding the WBC Middleweight title and Alimkhanuly holding the IBF and WBO titles, the unifying fight between these two is inevitable at this point. The fight becomes even more interesting when you consider that the self-proclaimed ‘Boogeyman’ of the middleweight division has been constantly calling out Adames for a fight.
With Alimkhanuly seeing his October 4 fight against Andrei Mikhailovich as a tune-up for the Adames clash, he has been asking for a contact from the WBC champion for an early 2025 fight. But a recent update in the saga has put a mighty dent in the hopes of this clash as Carlos Adames gave his future fight update after getting called out by the unified champion.

‘Qazaq Style’ took to his ‘X’ account and tweeted that he was waiting for a contract from Adames’ camp for a fight early next year. He wants to make this fight a reality as soon as he is done with Andrei Mikhailovich’s fight on Friday, October 4, 2024, in Sydney, Australia. His IBF championship will be on the line and Alimkhanuly is confident in his ability to defend that title. “Carlos, I fight in Australia on October 4th. I’m waiting for a contract from you. Let’s do it in January or February. Send me the contract,” Janibek Alimkhanuly declared.
He was not done as he posted two more tweets, even calling out Erislandy Lara, the WBA champion in the process. A few hours later, he received a reply from Adames that threw a wrench in the unified champion’s plan.
“I’m open to fight any guy who wants fight against me. I will fight in dec, step foward. I don’t change my schedule for anyone, i’m the champ. Is that clear clear?” The tweet made it clear that the Nevada resident is in no mood to give in to any kind of prompting and will only fight in his own timeline, which in this case is December.

The 31-year-old had earlier posted a series of tweets, one of which mentioned the constant challenge he has sent to Adames and how all of them have been rejected. He wrote, “Carlos is very active on Twitter but he never sends me a contract and he will never fight me because he is afraid. I have a question. He is a champion. Why doesn’t he want to fight me?” questioning the credibility of 24-1 boxer as a champion.
This is not the first time that Carlos Adames has ignored the challenge by the unified champion. Since becoming the WBO champion, Alimkhanuly has been constantly calling out the biggest names in the middleweight division, including Adames. But the Dominican Republic boxer has failed to confirm his rival’s call out for a fight. Thus, making it seem like he might be dodging the fight. But it is never that simple.
For the past few years, Carlos Adames has been solidifying his status as one of the best in the middleweight class, and now he has done that. Furthermore, his camp has also expressed their desire to face Janibek Alimkhanuly in the future, but there are certain fights that he wants to prioritize before that, mainly the clash with Jermell Charlo, before the latter’s retirement.

Adames might not be actively dodging Alimkhanuly, but delaying this inevitable fight might only hurt his credibility as a champion. Since he did not even beat Charlo for the belt, he is more susceptible to that criticism. So sooner or later, he will have to fight the unified champion.
