Did Eddie Hearn really destroy Anthony Joshua's career, or is De La Hoya just stirring the pot?

Another devastating loss for Eddie Hearn‘s fighter. It has been a running theme for him, whenever he goes up against Frank Warren. The latest to make the unfortunate list is Anthony Joshua, who found himself knocked out cold on the canvas when Daniel Dubois wrecked him. The situation has put the Matchroom Boxing lynchpin in turmoil, and it has given his American counterpart, Oscar De La Hoya, an opportunity to laugh at him.

De La Hoya, 51, turned to his social media handles and posted his ‘Clap Back Thursday,’ where he issues a comical take on the developments of the past week. It also allows him to throw shade at his rivals, and that’s what he did in the latest segment, as he questions Hearn’s promotional acumen and its adverse effect on ‘AJ’s career.

The Golden Boy Promotions lynchpin pointed out how Hearn, 45, had dropped 11 fights to Warren, 72, and labeled the scenario as a ‘Matchroom curse.’ In addition, he claimed Hearn couldn’t build a fighter’s career and had fumbled Joshua’s career after his latest loss. He declared, “It was actually an amazing fight, an entertaining fight, and I like AJ.”

“However, this was another huge out for Eddie Hearn, who is literally 0 and 11 to Frank Warren this year. This continues the Matchroom curse, meaning if you sign with Matchroom, you’re either guaranteed to lose or get injured… Eddie, you can’t build a fighter to save your life. Anthony Joshua had the world at his fingertips, and you found a way to fumble his career,” De La Hoya continued.

Hearn not only lost the Matchroom vs. Queensberry 5vs5 card in Riyadh, but he also endured his biggest star in Joshua’s career-altering loss. While there are rumors of a fight with Tyson Fury down the line, he prefers a rematch with Dubois to set the record straight.

Every stakeholder wants Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois to run it back

Have an interesting take?

In a recent conversation with TalkSports, Eddie Hearn revealed that Anthony Joshua and Matchroom Boxing have one final bout lined up as part of their contract with Riyadh Season, and the English promoter believes all signs point to a high-stakes rematch with Daniel Dubois. Hearn has already secured the backing of His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, and it’s clear he’s not the only one pushing for this showdown.

Hearn stated, “His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh] will deal with Frank and Daniel and make that fight happen… Our meetings with His Excellency, he wants the rematch. AJ will always want the rematch. Daniel wants the rematch, too. It’s the biggest fight for him, and they will fancy it.”

While the boxing world eagerly awaits confirmation, the potential rematch hinges on whether Joshua and Dubois ultimately agree to step back into the ring together. Interestingly, Frank Warren has already hinted that Dubois will fight again in February, and while he hasn’t ruled out a rematch with Joshua, the outcome of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury could influence the decision.
