Eddie Hearn‘s luck is running dry, with him losing his star boxers one by one, and his biggest blow came when Anthony Joshua hit the wall against Daniel Dubois. So he is on the receiving end of scathing criticism, especially from Oscar De La Hoya. It seems the British boxer also has something to say to his American counterpart.
When Joshua, 34, dropped the fight to Dubois, 27, it was another loss to one of the star boxers from Hearn’s stable. De La Hoya had declared, “Eddie, you can’t build a fighter to save your life. Anthony Joshua had the world at his fingertips, and you found a way to fumble his career.” However, it’s the British promoter who had a scathing reply, as he lists down the names from his stable.
In addition, the 45-year-old pointed out the history of De La Hoya getting on the bad side of his fighters, such as Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia. What’s more? Jaime Munguia became the latest to join the exodus, as he switched his allegiance to Top Rank this year. Hearn told Boxing Social, “If I want to reel off–Shakur Stevenson, Jaron Ennis, ‘Bam Rodriguez’–that’s three of my US fighters right there.”

Eddie Hearn continued, “Canelo left him a long time ago. Ryan Garcia, God knows how that’s going to play out. Jaime Munguia has left Oscar De La Hoya, gone to Top Rank. He’s put Barboza in with Ramirez. Who cares? And Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez, he lost. We beat him around with Bivol years ago.”

The Matchroom Boxing lynchpin then questioned whether Golden Boy Promotions had a star at all in their ranks. He added, “Tell me one fighter that is a star that they have.” When the reporter threw into the mix the name of William Zepeda, Hearn asked whether he was a future star or a current star.

Is Oscar De La Hoya just bitter, or does he have a point about Canelo and Hearn?

Eddie Hearn questions the credentials of Oscar De La Hoya’s future star
Zepeda, 28, is the current WBA and IBF title contender and will have his pick from Vasiliy Lomachenko or Gervonta Davis. However, initially, he was in talks to fight Hearn’s Shakur Stevenson, but that didn’t pan out. So Hearn added, “So future star counts now. Does it?” Interestingly, another notable name missing from De La Hoya is Vergil Ortiz Jr., whom Hearn dismissed after pointing out the lackluster and close fight with Serhii Bohachuk. But he also has yet to claim the champion’s tag.

What’s more? The only champions in De La Hoya’s ranks currently are Gabriela Funora, Oscar Collazo, and Gilberto Ramirez, who moved up after losing to Bivol and recently won the WBA super cruiserweight title. Hearn is currently locked in for the coming fight between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev on October 12, where the winner will take all the marbles at 175. It remains to be seen whether Hearn’s fighter, Bivol, will falter at the biggest stage or rise to the occasion.
