Floyd Schofield has once again proved his boxing credentials and showcased his skills. The American boxer has kept the lightweight division buzzing with his heavy-handed punches and aggression. He exhibited the same when he went the distance and picked up another win this past Saturday. However, one of his moments in the fight—him tumbling down in the ring—left the fans in splits and gave them a space to come up with their own theories behind it.
Schofield, 22, successfully held on to his WBA international lightweight title against Rene Tellez Giron at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Despite the fight going the distance, he swept the judges’ scorecards, as they unanimously read 118-109, 116-111, and 118-109 in his favor. The fight produced everything for the fans—exciting action, fireworks, and a knockdown.

Schofield remained his typical best as he took on Giron and controlled the fight from the first bell. But there was a scar in the 11th round of the fight when Giron’s counter-left hook caught Schofield lacking and dropped him to the canvas. It was his career’s first knockdown, but he got back on his feet quickly and saw through the fight.

In the post-fight interview, he told Chris Mannix, “Rene’s a tough fighter. You know, I slept on it—he got a little bit of power. But, you know, thank you to Rene. He’s an incredible, tough fighter. And, you know, on to the next.” However, a segment from the fight made the rounds on the internet shortly after the fight. In between the rounds, when ‘Kid Austin’ returned to his corner and tried to sit on his stool, he missed it and fell. The fans then took to their social media handles and discussed it.

A fan poked fun at Schofield, as they compared his fall to Canelo Alvarez‘s when he took on Gennady Golovkin in a rematch. They even shared the Mexican champion’s fall while drawing parallels. Notably, when Alvarez, 34, fought Golovkin, 42, he fought at middleweight and drained himself to make the weight.

Another user labeled the clip of Alvarez taking a fall hilarious. They wrote, “This clip is forever funny because wtf even made him fall.” This fight served as a wake-up call for Alvarez, who barely edged out Golovkin with a majority decision and soon moved up a division.
Someone had the same question as they wondered what made Alvarez, at 62-2-2, fall. They asked, “why tf canelo fall😭.” The question popped up because someone from the champion’s camp had only brushed his face and he immediately fell to his knees.
A comment specified that the answer depended on which sections of fans were they looking for an answer. They noted, “If depends who you ask. Canelo fans will tell you it’s because he was drained and still beat GGG. Canelo detractors will tell you he tried to swallow one too many clenbuterol tablets.” Alvarez had tested positive for clenbuterol ahead of the rematch, which is a banned substance. But he escaped a heavy penalty after citing meat contamination.

Gervonta Davis didn’t hold back when Schofield missed the stool between the rounds. He commented, “head a– and stop letting ya father cut ya hair.” Schofield had called ‘Tank’ in the past and his fall between the rounds allowed him to hit back.
