Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez was seemingly not happy with 7-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi following Argentina’s victory over Mexico in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This was due to Messi allegedly stomping on one of the Mexican jerseys while removing his shoes.

However, Alvarez felt that this was a sign of disrespect by the Argentine and threatened Messi with violence as he took to Twitter to express his frustrations.
“Did you guys see Messi cleaning the floor with our jersey and flag? He better pray to God that I don’t find him.” Alvarez tweeted in his native language.

Despite there not being many people who would face the Mexican boxer in a one-on-one fight, former UFC fighter turned podcaster Brendan Schaub warned him not to threaten Messi.
Canelo Alvarez gets warned about Messi’s security
In his podcast, ‘Thiccc Boy’ Schaub claimed that Messi had more money than Alvarez and has a great security force to protect him in case of any threat.
“Messi got into a little bit of trouble because he took the Mexican football Jersey and cleaned the locker room doors with it. Canelo see that Mr. Mexico was like hey Messi you better watch your back because when I see you it’s on. I think he said you realize these hands muchacho, he didn’t say muchacho but I feel like he should have. But also Canelo if there is one guy with more money than you it is Messi and his security is thick” said Schaub.

The former UFC fighter certainly feels that Alvarez should refrain from physically threatening Messi. Moreover, he is currently one of the most beloved athletes in sports with many coming out in his support following Saul’s threats.
Did Messi really stomp on the Mexican flag?
Despite Alvarez’s bold claims, it is pretty evident that Messi pushed a jersey, not the Mexican flag. There was no flag involved in the video, which makes the Mexican’s accusation fall apart immediately. Moreover, Messi probably did not realize that the jersey was underneath his foot.
However, it is still unknown who Messi exchanged jerseys with after the match.
Despite that one thing, it can be said for certain that Messi did not intentionally stomp on the jersey.
