The P4P king, Canelo Alvarez, is not done with the 168 lbs roster. As the three-belt unified titlist is just short of the IBF strap to become the undisputed divisional kingpin, it has urged him to revive the potential fight talks with Caleb Plant.
However, Alvarez wasn’t running out of options. From middleweights to light heavyweights, the Mexican star could have fought anyone. Nevertheless, given his mission to conquer all at 168, and his label as a top super-middleweight, he knows he must be ‘Sweethands’ to leave no doubt in anyone’s minds.
According to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, PBC and FOX have begun the works and the matchup can happen in November.

The 168 lbs unification fight came to the forefront when Alvarez vanquished Billy Joe Saunders for the WBO title in May. It instantly caught Plant’s attention. Although ‘Sweethands’ offered little legacy to Alvarez’s resume, his undefeated record and IBF world title allured the Mexican star to step up. September 18 would have been the initial date until contractual turmoils disrupted the talks.

Does Caleb Plant have a chance against Canelo Alvarez?
Despite his unbeaten status, Caleb Plant will have to do more than the basics to surpass a mighty Canelo Alvarez, who has been dismantling undefeated opponents for a long time. On paper, Plant’s resume offers no threat to him. Nevertheless, ‘Sweethands’ has appeared optimistic about beating his Mexican rival.
Given boxing’s unpredictability, Caleb Plant will have every chance to become the second man to vanquish the P4P king. But Canelo Alvarez’s sheer activeness and prowess can see him get the upper hand in any situation. Hence, the 168 lbs unification fight will have much more than just five belts (4 world titles and the Ring belt) up for grabs.
