Undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez had a rocky last year. While the Mexican star defended his title once against his longstanding rival Gennady Golovkin, he failed to beat the WBA light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. However, Alvarez has made it clear he wants to face the Russian boxer and get revenge for his second loss.
Despite the fight speculated for next year, Alvarez’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently revealed that Saul will not face Bivol immediately. Moreover, he will face an interim champion before moving on to the Russian.

In an interview with IFL TV, Hearn stated that he is booking Alvarez to face WBO interim super middleweight champion, John Ryder. He also revealed that the fight will be scheduled for May, the month Alvarez wanted to face Bivol. However, if Alvarez wins this matchup, he can challenge Bivol next for the super middleweight title.

This is an interesting announcement considering that if Saul wins, he will face Bivol at 168-pounds. The two previously fought at light heavyweight or 175 pounds, which is why Alvarez didn’t lose his titles after the loss. Now, the champ might need to put all his titles on the line if he wants to rematch Bivol and get his revenge.
Dmitry Bivol reveals he will be ready for Canelo Alvarez at 168 pounds
Bivol has fought at light heavyweight his entire life but is more than willing to cut to 168 pounds to face Alvarez. While it was reported that the Mexican was looking for a rematch at 175 pounds, Bivol wasn’t too keen on competing at this weight. However, he revealed that he will be more than motivated to face Alvarez at 168 pounds. In an interview with Boxing social, Bivol stated that although he hasn’t competed in the division, he can surely cut weight and be motivated to fight Alvarez.

“Of course, it will be enough motivation for me to make 168. But I need to think about it more. I wasn’t 168 for many years. I didn’t make this weight. But if this fight is possible, OK, let’s talk about it. Let’s do it. I think I would be ready.” He said.
This fight will certainly be an epic clash between two of the best boxers in the world. However, it seems that Alvarez first needs to beat Ryder, which he most certainly will, and then avenge his loss to Bivol. The Russian, on the other hand, will have a chance to become the only undisputed champion in super middleweight after Alvarez.
