Is it too early to say Canelo's son might give Devin Haney a run for his money?

Many say, ‘The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.’ Growing up, witnessing some of his brothers taking up the gloves, it was only natural that Canelo Alvarez found his calling in boxing. Alvarez reportedly started boxing when he was thirteen. In a nearly two-decade-long career, fans saw him reach boxing heights, winning championships across four divisions. From what it appears, his son too has been showing strong signs of following in his world-famous father’s footsteps.

So a short clip of his 5-year-old son, Saul Adiel Alvarez, has been receiving considerable attention. Several fans have since joined in sharing their thoughts as they saw Canelo Alvarez’s son throwing some slick punches on the pads held by Eddy Reynoso. The super middleweight champion will enter the ring again next month. He squares off against Edgar Berlanga on September 21 at the T-Mobile Arena.

The tweet from Boxing n BBQ read, “Canelo’s son Killin it with Eddie.” Just over ten seconds long, the clip features Alvarez’s son in a southpaw stance opposite Reynoso. It commences with Saul Alvarez throwing an uppercut first. A left hook quickly follows. A prompt from the celebrated trainer, and the junior swiftly repeats the combination.

The sequence continues for a few more times. Nevertheless, it was interesting to see how the young child executed the punches with correct form and precision. Last year, in an interview with Sun Sport, Canelo Alvarez spoke about his son’s possible foray into boxing.

He loves boxing. He told me, ‘Hey, when am I going to fight in Vegas?’ I said, ‘OK, take it easy. When you grow up and you’re 18 years old, maybe you can fight in Vegas. First you’re going to take the first punch and then let me know if you want to be a boxer or not,” he said. He emphasized the improvement of passion and discipleship to make it big in boxing. Canelo Alvarez nevertheless underscored that he needs to have the requisite talent.

Saul Alvarez’s professionalism clearly impressed a lot of fans. But that prevents a few from using the clip to take digs on some usual targets. Let’s check what some of them wrote. Suggesting potential for more power ads Saul Alvarez improves his techniques; this fan noted how the junior could generate power even without being fully positioned. They stated, “He’s got some pop in his shots already and he’s not even fully in his stance.” Observing that Alvarez’s son tends to box with his hands down, the next fan hoped that the young kid would develop the ability to absorb solid punches the way his father does to compensate for the flaw. “Hand down hope he got a chin like his daddy,” said the fan.
