Ryan Garcia might be the one facing suspension and millions of dollars in penalties for positive doping tests. However, it seems like Devin Haney is suffering even more because of all the criticism lately. And now Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya has chimed in, giving ‘The Dream’ Haney a harsh reality check about the entire PED ordeal, which saw the April 20th fight between Garcia and Haney turned into a no contest.

However, that’s not the end of De La Hoya’s fury! He even roped in Canelo Alvarez, Shane Mosley, while underscoring the severe inconsistencies in the punishment for testing positive for PEDs. The former world champion and now head of Golden Boy Promotions hopped on Instagram hours ago, sharing his unfiltered thoughts on the Garcia-Haney situation.

Speaking about Ryan Garcia, Oscar made his stance on PEDs clear, claiming he doesn’t condone the use of such substances whatsoever. However, he wanted to emphasize the inconsistencies in the severity of the punishments handed out in such cases. He said, “I do not understand it… Canelo Alvarez gets popped in a different state, gets six months, Shane Mosley gets popped and gets zero”.

It’s worth mentioning that Canelo Alvarez, who had partnered with De La Hoya in the past, tested positive for clenbuterol, a substance that has steroid-like effects but is not a steroid. The Mexican superstar was suspended for six months in 2018 just ahead of his canceled rematch against Gennady Golovkin, but no penalties were levied on him.

Also, in 2003, Shane Mosley had admitted to receiving EPOs from Victor Conte just after defeating Oscar De La Hoya in a rematch, which Mosley claimed he took under the guise of regular supplements. And since this was revealed in 2007, Mosley faced zero consequences for taking the EPOs. Whereas, Oscar highlighted Garcia had to pay back his contract purse of $1.2 million and $10K fine to NYSAC, adding, “that is not right”.

Turning to Devin Haney, Oscar didn’t mince his words, stating, “you are pathetic”. Pointing out the clip Haney shared on social media of himself dancing in a bowling alley while celebrating the no contest ruling, Oscar said, “Nobody’s gonna forget about that beating you took”. He also alleged that Haney was accusing him of not paying him, but Oscar said, “Bro, you just do not sell—that’s the bottom line. You can audit my company anytime you want”.

Meanwhile, Devin Haney seems adamant about facing Ryan Garcia in a rematch to get his reputation as the best reinstated.

Devin Haney wants to make Ryan Garcia pay for what he did

While Ryan Garcia had to pay millions in penalties and miss out on fights worth millions, Devin Haney was also missing out on making big money. The low purse offer for the Sandor Martin mandatory title fight saw Haney being offered a mere $1.2 million by Top Rank. So, while appearing in the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Haney spoke his mind.

“He will pay for what he did in and out of the ring,” Haney said. Speaking about his low purse bid, Haney claimed the ordeal had cost him money, so “I would love for my next fight to be against Ryan Garcia. If everything is right”. As to whether the Garcia fight in April 2025 would be his next fight in the ring, Haney revealed that would not be feasible and he would fight once before.

That said, Oscar De La Hoya doesn’t seem too fond of Devin Haney, as he highlighted the disparity in Garcia’s punishment. As for a rematch, Garcia doesn’t seem to be interested, even if it can make him millions again. Do you agree with ‘The Golden Boy?’
