Canelo Alvarez has given an insight into his aims and goals immediately after dismantling Avni Yildirim. The Mexican superstar spoke about why the undisputed title is his sole aim, rather than fluctuating between weight groups.
Alvarez is a four-division world champion and has always moved from one division to another. However, he is now set on the super-middleweight division and is chasing the undisputed title. So why is Canelo finally set on one weight-class?

The champion took a step closer to his goal by destroying Turkish challenger, Avni Yildirim, in just three rounds. The Mexican champion threw fast, powerful, and accurate combinations to the body and finished the challenger, who barely registered any offense before his corner called the fight off.
In the post-fight interview, Alvarez shared the real reason for chasing undisputed gold. He said, “That’s because it hasn’t been done. In Latin America, no one has done it. In all of Latin America. And in the world, only very few. Only the best. And I want to make history and I want to be the best in the world.” [via a translator]
The Mexican then added, “And at 168 [lbs] no one has done it in the world.”
These comments showed how much it means to him regarding his legacy as a fighter. Canelo Alvarez wants to be the undoubted best.

Canelo Alvarez chasing the undisputed title- Why is it important for boxing?
Alvarez fought Yildirim only two months after his previous bout. The reason for this was that he is chasing the other unification bouts later in the year. So why is it imperative that Alvarez goes after the undisputed title?
Boxing faces a lot of criticism from other combat sports regarding fighters avoiding each other. Moreover, the number of champions and super-champions in the sport doesn’t do it any favors. This not only leads to confusion among fans, but also prevents many big fights from happening.

Alvarez recently commented that boxing should have only one champion per weight class. If he chases the undisputed title, either he or his opponents will become the undisputed super-middleweight champion of the world. Thus, giving the division one supreme champion.
In addition, critics have always compared Alvarez to Floyd Mayweather. However, one thing Mayweather never did was unify all the belts in a division. Therefore, if Alvarez can do it, it will go a long way to proving his legacy in the sport.
