Despite his superstardom, Canelo Alvarez seems to prefer being humble in the sport of boxing. The P4P king has had several bad-blood feuds, where he has cussed his opponent. However, Alvarez has always maintained certain moral codes.

While he is arguably the best boxing star of the era, Alvarez has never really reflected that in his media interactions. That hasn’t prevented the other boxers from praising him. Newly crowned WBO super featherweight champion, Shakur Stevenson, was one of them.

In a chat with Complex Sports, Alvarez shared his views on several factors. As he is days away from meeting Caleb Plant in a 168 lbs unification clash, Alvarez reacted to Shakur Stevenson‘s praise.

Canelo Alvarez said, “I feel proud to hear that many want to be like me. At the end of the day, that’s what I aspire to do—inspire and motivate others. But it’s an opinion that others may have. But I’m happy to be an example for others and that motivates me to continue on in this sport.”

After amassing a legendary resume of 56-1-2, the 31-year-old is on the brink of entering a career-defining bout. On beating Caleb Plant, the Mexican star can become the first-ever undisputed super middleweight champion.

A high-profile fight of this caliber often brings two evenly matched boxers against each other. However, Alvarez looks superior to Plant as ‘Sweethands’, 21-0 as a professional, hasn’t faced anyone like Canelo Alvarez before.

After suffering his maiden career loss to Floyd Mayweather, Canelo Alvarez brilliantly resurrected himself. No other boxer could defeat him again. Several elites like Gennady Golovkin, Billy Joe Saunders, Daniel Jacobs, and many others tried and failed.

After vanquishing Sergey Kovalev in 2019 for the light heavyweight title, the Mexican elite spent a year on the sidelines. He returned and went straight for Callum Smith‘s WBA and WBC super-middleweight titles.

On bagging them, Alvarez defended the straps against Avni Yildirim in February, before adding Billy Joe Saunders’s WBO strap in May. This sheer activeness validates his superiority over ‘Sweethands’ unless Plant offers something unique.
