Boxer Canelo Alvarez seems uninterested in a potential fight against David Benavidez, according to an interview with Fight Hub TV’s Marcos Viegas. During the interview, Canelo discussed his plans for the future and mentioned that his goal is a rematch against Dmitry Bivol. He said that after his upcoming fight against John Ryder, he would focus on Bivol, and if that fight doesn’t happen, he’ll consider other options.
When asked about the possibility of a fight against Benavidez, Canelo was non-committal. He made it clear that his current goal was to fight against Bivol. Alvarez believes that his every fight is good for him and his fans. Even if the fight against Bivol does not happen, Canelo will look for other things. He said, “But if the fight with Bivol don’t happen, then we look other things.” Alvarez is set to fight Ryder in Mexico, which will reportedly air live on DAZN and DAZN PPV in the US and Canada.

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn responded to criticism of Canelo Alvarez’s upcoming fight against John Ryder. Hearn refuted Oscar De La Hoya‘s remarks about Canelo’s selection of opponents since leaving Golden Boy pormotions. He emphasized that John Ryder is the mandatory and undisputed Super Middleweight champion, and he has earned his shot at Canelo.

Hearn also defended Canelo’s recent opponents, including Billy Joe Saunders, Caleb Plant, Dmitry Bivol, and Gennadiy Golovkin. He claimed that Canelo wants challenges and will fight anyone, unlike some fighters who avoid challenges. He criticized De La Hoya’s matchmaking for fighters like Zurdo Ramirez and Jaime Munguia.

Regarding the fans’ desire to see Canelo fight Jermall Charlo or David Benavidez, Hearn pointed out that Charlo hasn’t fought in a long time, and Benavidez is currently fighting Caleb Plant. He believes that if Benavidez beats Plant, it would be a tremendous fight for Canelo. He thinks that Benavidez should start calling out Canelo if he wins.
