After last year’s September fight against long-time rival Gennady Golovkin, he underwent surgery on his left hand and wasn’t expected to return for at least a year. However, beating the odds, the Super Middleweight champion would return to defend his titles in his hometown, Guadalajara.

The thirty-two-year-old five-division champion debuted professionally at age fifteen on October 29, 2005. Ever since, he has participated in 62 matches, winning 58. The remaining matches are split equally between two losses and two draws. Becoming an undisputed Super Middleweight champion in 2021, Alvarez is undoubtedly at the peak of trade.

In 2021, he fought thrice. For the February 27 fight against Avni Yildirim, his guaranteed paycheck was $30 million. For the next two contests, the first against Billy Joe Saunders on May 8 and the next one against Caleb Plant on November 6, according to Forbes, he took around $90 million. The massive amount included $85 million as fight purses and $5 million that came his way through promotions and sponsorships.
